aftermarket torque convertor question

I have a customer who just had an aftermarket tc installed in his truck. The tc lock up clutch engages very slugish and sometimes only when you leave off the throttle. I personally called the owner/builder and explained the problem with the convertor and he told me the tranny doesn't have enough line pressure to lock the convertor, but he told the truck owner this would work fine and that the trans. had enough pressure and he sold him this convertor.

Has anyone ever heard of an aftermarket convertor reguiring more pressure to lock the convertor? Something about the stator needing more force to engage the clutch! This trans has a shift kit and has close to 150 psi to the lock up. or is this BS?

I'm not talking holding pressure, this convertor doesn't slip once it locks.

I believe he'll need a new valve body to go along with the TC. He definantly has line pressure issues.

Better call Dave Goerend.

I have a transgo shift kit, and when my converter locks, it locks fast, and hard with no slipping. Sounds like he has a valve body problem of some kind.

It could be a line pressure problem,or i once had a brand new converter from a company that wouldn't lock up unless you let your foot off the pedal. Something wasent right with the orfices in the converter, so a new one was put in,

If the stator is too tight it could effect lock-up. He'll have to get a modified valvebody. Call Dave and explain the problem, he's the man.

I had a similar problem after installing a tighter TC. Had to let off the fuel for it to lock up. Bought Dave's VB and problem is gone.

He said the convertor would work with the valve body in his truck. He didn't want to change any thing but the convertor.
