Aftermarket accessory quiz
Aftermarket accessory quiz
Ok, the truck in question is the one in my sig. I've only had it a couple weeks now and I was poking around under the hood to find a good place to pass the pyro thermocouple lead, fuel pressure gauge hose, and boost gauge tubing through the firewall. Just to the left of where the brake pedal push rod goes through the firewall, there is another rubber plug about 1.5" in diameter (I assume this would be where the clutch pedal push rod would pass throug the firewall. There is evidence that this plug has been removed, rotated out of the way and something else used to pass through this opening. Upon further inspection, I see there are two small holes drilled in the knee bolster right above the acelerator pedal (I'm guessing brake controller). I popped the fuse panel cover off the side of the dash to have a look see and I see that #9 fuse has a fuse tap on it, but nothing hooked to it.
So here's the quiz: What would you guess would be the most likely aftermarket accessory installed that would need to have something pass through the firewall and also draw power from #9 fuse?
[Vehicle service history shows that two months before I bought the truck, the PCM was shorted out and was replaced. One month before I bought the truck the lift pump was replaced.]

You find any wires spliced anyplace under the hood? I can think of a few things, but there should be more evidence. The likely thing is the brake controller, and the wiring through the firewall somehow if the truck does not have the towing package.
I have wires and taps on mine I have never figured out yet. In my case they tapped 3 or 4 wires coming out of the column behind that panel where you have the holes drilled. You might pull your to see if there is more evidence behind it.

Could be maybe some form of lighting as well, weather it be fog lights or offroad lights.
The fuse tap could have been for the trigger for the toggle switch. Other things you could look for to help figure out what was installed is a pump wire being peirced or look at the main harness running across the cowl under the hood to see if there is a wire peirced there as well. If any of those wires are tampered with then somebody took the fueling box off the truck before you got it.

The truck has factory tow package with the plug under the dash for the brake controller. Also, the truck has the Sport package with the factory driving lights and no signs that any other lights were attached to anything up front.
OK that narrows it down some.
Take a look at the link below and see if any of these wires are tamperd with. If they are you can be pretty sure that there was some sort of fueling box on your truck before you bought it.

Good Luck

Thanks for the link.... I'll have to stash that one away or print it out and save it for a little warmer weather. I could barely fit my '96 1500 CC in the garage, but the 2500 QC is way too tall to fit under my garage door header.
