Hey, I was wondering if anyone has an AFE intake... And what are some of the pros and cons, and do I need one???

they are great, alot better than the K&N you have now. just dont oil the filter too much. i found out mine was over-oiled when i pulled the head apart and the intake manifold is full of oil residue

If your K&N is a drop in filter, I would say you will get a lot more air, to feed your Juice, with the AFE. Their filters are probably the best on the market.

If you already have the FIPK II cone filter from K&N. I would stay with it. I'm one of the few here that thinks the K&N's are a good system. I had an FIPK II for 2 yrs and it worked very well. Never any oil or debris in the turbo throat or air intake tube, but I left it alone!

As stated above... biggest problem with K&N's is cleaning too often... and over oiling. Should be left alone for at least 50,000 miles, unless very dusty conditions.

If your asking about just the 'Torque Tube' intake... I don't see the need for it on our trucks.

Good Luck

I now have the AFE Stage 2...awesome! Had the Stage 1, but liked the fully enclosed chamber of the 2.

Did you ever do oil analysis?

Just put the AFE stage 1 on. Love it! Really makes the turbo scream and increased the throttle response. Can't beat it for the price either.

Yes, at least every other change! No abnormal readings. Silicon, which everyone seems to concentrate on (when discussing K&N), was in the 4-7 ppm range, depending on how far I went. Got 10 ppm one time...on a 10,000 mile test with Amsoil, without changing fleetguard filter (part of the test).
Note
1-If unfamiliar with FIPK II, it has much larger cone filter than previous K&N models. Similar in size to PRO Guard 7.
2-Went to Scotty II; Sound & EGT's were better but oil analysis had no noticable differences.

The AFE units are great! If you are worried about filtration levels of the standard filters try the progaurd 7 versions. As for the BHAF, you are better off wit the OEM unit. The BHAF looks cool but actually has been shown to decrease HP....

This seems contrary to most input on bhafs. Not to say your wrong but many think it is THE best for air filtration.

AFE Stage 2 A++++

I just put the AFE II on my truck along with a Juice/Attitude and absolutely love it. Turbo sounds awesome now and will sound even better when I finish my exhaust. I have the ProGuard 7. I haven't had it long enough to require a cleaning yet, but I think it is the cat's meow.

Maybe the BHAF filters too well.... for for the high air flow requirements of bigger HP??

Never used one so can't say.

How could a paper filter(bhaf) that size, affect negatively if air is whats needed. Do we have hard data on BHAFs. I wonder if these people against it sell air filter systems.

My thoughts exactly, I've Had a K&N FIPK II for almost three years now, silicon levels alway between 3-5 ppm @ 4000 mile intervals. Never any oil in the intake tube or turbo. Were the people that had problems with K&N running the drop in or the FIPK?
