98 12V Mods??

All,
Looking to do some performance mods and here are the details:
98 Dodge ram 2500, quad cab, LB, Laramie SLT, 12V, New auto, 188K miles all highway. Completely bone stock. Nothing has been turned up on it. Talking to the original owner the KDP was never done. Didn't even know what is was. So this is my first priority. Basically looking to get a little more HP & Torque without sacrificing reliability or damaging the new tranny (dealership replacement slightly beefed up $3200).

I was thinking in the line of the following:

1. New 4'' exhaust as the stock exhaust is crap as it still looks like the original exhaust.
2. BHAF
3. DDP injectors 50hp, 75hp?? What can I safely take it to with the new auto?
4. Fuel plate what # can I safely take it to?
5. GSK springs guessing 4K?\
6. Turbo upgrade? (the original still seems good, doesn't use any oil, however I need to check shaft play and see if it has any).
6. Gauges egt, boost, trans.

Any suggestions or recommendations would be appreciated. I'm looking to get in the 300hp range and still be reliable and not tear anything up. I will post pictures of the truck later as I'm out of town. The truck is completely mint, no rust anywhere, straight body and interior looks as new as the day it rolled off the floor.

do the intake, exhaust a good set of gauges and the 3kgsk kit. Maybe a #6 plate with boost elbow and that should be a really good safe package for your trans

BigD- thanks for the info. So the BHAF air intake is good then? The rest sounds good. Looks like I can get-r-done for around a grand then?

I agree, other than my personal choice is a #10 if your pulling
Much more and your going to add trans work to the list.

I would have said 10...in fact I had 10 but replaced it with 6 for the fact that a 6 shouldn't hurt his trans.

BHAF....I would get an AFE stage 2 myself. I have seen some dyno information on the bhaf and its not impressive at all.

So as BigD stated what range HP/Torque can I expect? Right now I think my Jetta TDI pulls harder than the 12V. LOL! Just wish the truck had the 5spd. I hate auto's with a passion.

You could really put a hurt on that trans for free if you wanted. if you want to do it cheap here is what I would do. Grind my fuel plate to a 0 and use it as a max fuel stop, I would not put it full forward but would put it where i want my max power to be, in your case that is limited by the trans. from there i would adjust my afc to control my low end fueling, tight starwheel with afc housing pushed towards the cab will really cut low end power. from there I would just test drive and adjust as necessary.
so for free you could mess things up with too much power, necessary purchases for reliability are of course gauges. I would also think that an adjustable boost elbow would be a great thing. A free flowing filter would also help egt's as would a free flowing exhaust. If you don't mind turbo noise an there are good filters a lot cheaper than the afe stage 2.
also a 3 or 4k gsk, depending on future goals, would make it a lot of fun.
I really don't think that injectors are needed for what you want.
anyway hope this helped but be aware that a homemade 0 plate in an aggressive position will smoke that trans of yours. especially if you tow.

gs -not interested in dropping 5-6K for a real tranny as I could see myself pushing the limits with the #0 LOL! I think I'll just take it easy with a #6, some free flowing 4", boost elbow, 3k gsk, gauges, probably the bhaf as the AFE stage 2 is over $400 ***? Thanks for the recommendations..
