96 12v free power ups

My friend has a 96 and hes looking for the basic upgrades we can do in our garage. We are straight piping it and gonna yank the silencer ring. First how do you do that. Also what else should we do and how do we do it. Thanks in advance

Get a EGT gauge on it, then slide the plate full forward. That will be a automatic 40RWHP right there!

One of the big air filter mods , star wheel , check valve adj. , advance to about 15-19 deg. depending , take the fan off , then the fuel & oil additives , also the other sugestions metioned above. do searchs on all these and deside on these after being informed , a lot of this stuff depends on where you are going to end up so you get there with the least expence and have fun.

starwheel

is the most basic and simplest free upgrade, its just ur smoke control, if its loosened all the way it helps add more fuel early on and increases spool up slightly. John has already covered everythng else that i was goin to get to. I use stanadyne as an additive..

Silencer ring is easy, just remove the tube that connects to the turbo stick a screwdriver in there where it is slit and remove, ur gonna have to be rough on it, but not too much once u get it goin dont stop and it will come off by itself, once the snap is out, then just take out the ring itself..

Best of luck!

Tx

Also slide the AFC housing forward when doing starwheel and stock plate changes.

Advanced timing gave me a great jump in hp.

Here's a often forgotten one, change the overflow valve.

I would leave the AFC housing where its at or FULL BACK (towards the cab). When I first got my CC 97 last year right before Muncie I threw in my PDR 370's from my old truck and slid my AFC all the way forward. After that the truck had a TERRIBLE white haze at idle and mileage went down SEVERLY. Got to Muncie, talked to Piers, he said put the AFC back to stock (centered) and see if that would do it. I ended up putting it all the way back and averaged 2mpg better going home.

Without injectors the AFC housing can go forward just fine.

Yes, with injectors (especially 370's) you need the smoke control as well as the RFG (right foot governor).
