95 ctd problem with fuel gauge, HELP PLEASE!!

I just got rid of my PITA 3500 and got a nice 3/4 ton.
The problem is the fuel gauge doesnt work. It some times bounces back and forth but thats it. Is it a wire, gauge, or sending unit in the tank?
Any help PLEASE

hi
most likely sending unit in tank .

i removed mine and it took all of 3 min to fix it !

just gently remove the little plastic arm and bend the 3 contacts slightly so they have preasure aginst the reostat and carefully reinstall .

getting it out of the tank is the hard part .

i chose to lower the tank after it was low on fuel .

gage is perfectly steady now .

also you can get a new screen / filter for the bottom of the unit for about 13.00 , mine had a hole .

heat it in boiling water to install it !

I had the same issue and here is what I did. I ended up droping the tank and pulling the fuel sending unit, what I did was take an Ohmeter and checked the potentiometer that is conected to the float and it was all over the place then I simply went to the dealer and bought a new piece and installed it. Beware they will try and sell you the whole fuel moduel, this is more expensive and more than likly not need. Good luck.......

Hey Mike , I had to work on my 95 2500 ctd also and it was easiest for me to take the bed off. But I'm old fat and don't work well on the ground ! LOL Also while you got it accessable do your self a favor and change the rubber fuel hoses!
