94 2500 New to me
I have been looking for a used 2nd generation dodge for some time. Was looking for a 99 up. In Texas could not find one clean enough to consider under 20,000.00. Ran across a 1994 2500 single cab, 4x4, 12 valve, auto, 125000 miles. Clean as a whistle. Not a dent in the truck, interior perfect, maintained meticulously. Snatched it up for 10750.00. Installed a 4" turbo back exaust because the old exaust was replaced in a poor fashion. Having the rear main seal replaced today (leaking). Going to have valve train adjusted next week. Fuel guage is erratic but works at times, so I am thinking sending unit needs replacing. Once I finish with a few issues I think I will have a good clean older Cummins. I am very happy with this truck. A little dissapointed with the power. I also own a 05 Cummins. Compared to the 05 my 94 feels like a turd. I dont want to modify it to the point of tearing up the auto transmission but do want a little more power. Any conservative suggestions? Things to check as far as common problems or maintenence?
I would also suggest getting the timing checked. That would be one other reason for the feeling of low power. Does it smoke white when it is cold? If so is it a thick eye burning smoke? There are some other symptoms, but it is to warm for those. Anyhow, it is possible for the timing to have slipped.
