So a larger intercooler is not a must for a larger charger?

Nope, I'm north of 600hp on the stock intercooler with twins.

Mike's right, Now with twins the 65 Wheel works great due to external gates.
Even towing occasionally the 65 will choke and you'll simply run out of air, If your concerned go with the 62/71.

The 68's are a really neat charger too! IIRC they DO support just as much flow. I'd like to do some real world testing and compare Drive pressures!

John P. Will tell you I abused my Factory Intercooler....And pushed it well out of the efficency range and didnt have any failures or problems associated with the intercooler or lack of airflow!

They have cut their own compressor wheel after do a ton of reasearch on the off the shelf Borg Warner 62 wheel. Their "super62" wheel flows the same air as a 64 wheel but spools like a 62. I also had them put their race cover on it also, which flows a ton more air.

Now, as far as the 68mm turbine wheel. I have been told by a bunch of diesel gurus that this wheel will support the same amount of flow due to the extra blades and contour of the blades.
Dieselman, how much hp can a 62/68 support?
And more importantly on my end, How much fuel do you need to spool it?
All I have is the juice right now but i'm throwing in mach 1.6's next year and will be stacking a smarty for racing only, But I still tow and plow with this truck.

Would the juice and 90 horse sticks be enough to spool 62/68?

IIRC, Chris at Engineered Diesel said they have a 12valve that dynoed 550hp to the wheels.
Now, this was with their "super62" compressor wheel, 68mm turbine wheel and their race cover.

I have a 62-58 with a 12 housing and I hate it. runs hot, smokes and really cant tow with it as its to hot. wont cool until I get the rpms up to 23-2400.
I'm going to look into the ve351s and I think I'll check out the one listed above.

I think a 64 would be too big for only 90 horse sticks. I've been told to stay away from turbos with similarly sized compressor and turbine wheels because they tend to surge. I know of one local here who ran a 64/65/14 with 125hp or 150hp injectors and it surged so bad when towing it was miserable to drive! He had an auto though, which would probably make quite a difference.

Nope.... I ran that turbo for a while..... and you need fuel to spool it. Which i have plenty, i even ran my turbo (64/65/13ss) on my bros first gen, which is turned up pretty good with injectors, but it didnt spool very well and it ran hot.

"you need fuel to spool it" do you realize that is the 2nd biggest myth when it comes to diesels?
1st one is drive pressure kills headgaskets.

Why is it that when I have my 140hp injectors with my 100 plate full forward and my afc setup loose with a set of .024 dvs that the turbos I have ran all the way up to a Siler64 (64/74/14) are laggy smokey pigs?

Now when I have my 140hp injectors with my 100 plate 2mm back from full forward and my afc to full fuel at 25psi and my STOCK set of 181s the truck spools instantly?

BTW, those full cuts/laser cuts are killing your hp.

Have you ever dynoed your truck with a properly setup afc, 181dvs, and your 435s? I bet youll see more than 505hp out of that 64/65/14.

Well fuel does matter when it comes to turbos..... i dont see any people bolting 64/71/14s on there stock motors?????? I guess from what his sig says (75hp inj and a fuel plate) just didnt seem like a ton of fuel to me....... and i personally would just run a 62/65/13 JMO or something similar........ as for tuning my truck i have played with a few different setups, i dont have 181s so i havent tried that yet, but stock dvs, fuel plate almost full forward, and 435s...... definantly not as fast as it is with the laser cuts, fuel plate the same, and 435s....... but even that isnt as fast as laser cuts, no fuel plate, and 435s... so far that makes the most hp for me, until i try some 181s or 191s that is. As for spooling with the different setups..... not much difference at all....... trust me... ive had time to play with all kinds of settings and AFC spring settings and fuel plate positions... I havent been able to dyno every time i tuned my truck... i just went with the seat of the pants feel.

It won't be a problem. I ran my 62/71 with a Smarty, HRVP and Jammer2 sticks. Spooled decently, couldn't break 1300 degrees with that setup. If you floored it from a stop and overfueled it, it will kill the spool up and just smoke. Like Dieselman said, you don't need tons of fuel to spool a turbo. You need that fuel to take advantage of the turbo once it spooled to make power. Two very different things.
