5" Stacks while Towing

Looking into getting a set of 5" miter cut stacks from Chrome Depot. If I set the bottom edge of the miter cut to be about even with the cab would I get a terrible drone? Thinking about installing first with no muffler and judging from there if I want to add one or if the wife makes me add a muffler. Another concern is how loud would they be while towing a enclosed gooseneck trailer? Gonna be pulling about 10,000 plus pounds from June to August close to 90 percent of the time. Would wait if to annoying on highway but really want to get them. What heights are working out best for sound quality and tone? Thanks in advance.

I had 5" mitres on my truck before, and let me tell you, I did a 4 hour drive with them and when I got home I couldnt think anymore.
Yes, the stacks have drone. The setup I had did not have a muffler.

Plus, They make the camper black!!!

Get turn outs, they are much quieter. If you really want mitres then run a muffler. For the amount of driving it sounds like you do, mitres without a muffler will drive you nuts. I just took my 5" mitres off a few weeks ago because I just got tired of the noise, I have 4" duals out the back now and it seems like I am driving a completely different truck.

Thanks for the input guys. I've got a friend with 5 inch turn outs and he is tempting me something fierce to do em. I may wait until end of August to keep it from driving me nuts this summer. If I install them I will lean towards not putting a muffler on there. Can always add one if they are to loud or drive the wife crazy. Thanks again.

install a resonator. some people think that they have no use in life, but they help out alot. i'm not sure how much it would help with stacks. i still have the factory exhaust--minus muffler-- and left the resonator on. sounds stock at idle, but has a nice deep tone to it when i get on it. the resonator should take out most of the drone. but, like i said, not sure how much it would quiet down a set of stacks. just run'em strait and drown out the sound of the wife complaining!!

I just installed 5" mitres on my truck yesterday, but I cut them a little tall. The bottom of the mitre is about 4-5 inches above the cab. Loud, but not annoyingly loud. Cruising around 65-70 there isn't much noise, but that's not under load. Instead of using a Y pipe I went 4" straight into a 5" crossover. That might have helped quiet it a bit.

stacks are going to be loud . if 90% of your driving is unloaded its cool to hear them but tow a big load and use the power and your eye ***** will rattle

I thought my thinking problem came from something else but now that you mention it it did happen about the time I put stacks on my truck. I would get a resonator or free flowing muffler to put on it. I think the Chrome deopt even sells a small muffler like what you would want

Don't mean to hijack...does the larger diameter stack create a louder exhaust? Been wanting to do mitres at six inch, but not higher than cab height.

Thanks

Got dual 6's on the pick up and they are not quiet! They are not to bad for crusing but 15K later they will make you wonder why you did it .
