5" exhaust people, question

Hey guys,
I killed the KDP and the quad commander is coming next week so it's time to start thinking about some bombs.
From what I have read I won't need 5" exhaust until the 500hp range but I'd like to build the truck with room to grow, lots of room to grow.

I was wondering if all you guys running 5" are using a 5" down pipe as well or stepping up from 4" some where after the turbo? MBRP has a full 5" system but only sells a 4" down pipe by its self.

I'm trying to piece together a stack system and want to avoid having to buy high $$ 6" to 4" stainless stacks since I'm just going to have them powder coated (my truck is too ulgy for chrome ). If I can step a less expencive 6" stack into a 5" system I'll be out less money come the powder coating.

Any help would be great, thanks.

I'm looking for the same thing, I just put in my 5" stacks (take a look at my gallery) I'd like to also go with a 5" downpipe. Currently I'm just running the 3" downpipe and I hate it! I might just build it myself, if your handy it should be no problem! Hopefully my ramblings help something!

Your truck is what really got me thinking about black stacks. I like the stainless but it does not really fit the look I'm going for. Im going to take a big load to the local powder coater including stacks, bed caps and a head ache rack. I'll probably just buy a black tool box since my current box is hammered. The AR teflon wheels are on the list too.

Anyone else about the exhaust?

Most of the 5" syatems utilize a 4" downpipe. I helped install a 5" system on my friends 01 and his came with the 4" downpipe and then flares out to 5" near the transmission cross member. There are 5" systems for the 3rd gens that do have a 5" downpipe but they are quite pricey.

I did find this system for 94-02 Dodge but it is the entire system. Here's the link....http://www.rpmoutlet.com/dodgec5.htm

A 5" downpipe is a REALLY tight squeeze. I had one that I built, but scratched it eventually because it would hit and rub on the firewall under load. You have hardly any clearance if you have an auto with the cooler on the pass. side of the engine. Plus, unless you're running a ton of fuel and have the turbo(s) that really needs the breathing room it's not worth it. It will just hurt performance. That's what I noticed. Spoolup wasn't as quick, my theory is that when the exhaust expands from the 3" outlet to 5" right away, it creates a volume difference which then leads to a drop in drive pressure for the turbo. I then made a 4" downpipe which is much better, and it doesn't resonate nearly as bad as the 5". If I were you I'd stick with a 4" downpipe. But this is just my opinion...

Holy cow, they have a 6" diameter rolled stainless tip 18" long for $34. Anyone have an opinion on that? Thats almost too cheap to be true?

4" it is. Maybe I'll step it to 5 inch but I think either way stacks will be very loud.
Anyone know if grand rock sells a turbo back stack kit? All I'm finding is the stuff in the bed.

What about a source for 6" exhaust tube? Like I said, I don't think there is much point in paying for the chrome just to powder coat it.

Thanks for the help
