4th gen tie rod swap, done!
4th gen tie rod swap, done!
Loved it! Bolted right in, the difference in the steering is huge. Pulled 7,000 empty horse trailer this weekend through narrow winding mountain roads. Passing cars the whole time...
Sounds very interesting...
Can you give us a link or more details? What all did you replace / how bad were your original parts to begin with? Where did you get the parts? Total rough cost?

Thanks for the feedback! We need the part number of the kit please...
Your truck is same year as mine and the feedback clinched the deal for me. Also, have you checked for ball joint over travel on the linkage? I've heard rumors of breakage which could only be caused by over travel imo.

I didn,t even undo the nuts they looked rusted to bad just zipdisked them off three bangs with a big hammer they were bouncing on the floor. and when your there change your track bar I bought the adjustable one from XRF ( junk ) a year later the bushing is shot and the ball joint is out of grease had to fix it by drilling and tap for a grease fitting and installing a energy suspension bushing. Go for broke and buy solid steel track bar for a third gen. As the saying gos I should have payed double to do the job ONCE!!!
I was very tempted to take the truck to the local dealer for the alignment just for the satisfaction of seeing them scratch their heads. I took my truck to them for programming after I switched out from the base BCM and changed it over to a highline BCM ( all options are now there and work) so I wouldn't have any issues with the security system. The look on the service writers face was priceless. lol

Inspected the pitman arm. Often its worn out and needs to be replaced.
The part number is 52122362AH. A buddy installed in on a 98 truck a few months ago.
For all you 00-02 dodge truck owners, I would also do the 3rd gen brake upgrade. I've done that on my truck last year. Its night/day difference from the 2nd gen brakes

I'm already running 3rd gen 17" wheels so I can do the big brake upgrade before I start pulling a heavier trailer. It's definately on the to do list.
I have to take a break between mods on my truck, long enough so my husband doesn't give me "the look", or just make sure I can get it finished in the few hours I have between the time he leaves for work and I have to go in. lol
A friend of mine bought 4 Quadzillas w/pulse after hearing they were going out of business, so I've got to figure out how to explain that one next. My name is on one of them! Hmmm, wonder if he would believe it's a gps since I had to get the windshield mount.
horselady, for the 3rd gen big brake front upgrade, you just have to buy the 3rd gen rotors, 3rd gen caliper brackets and 3rd gen brakes. If you have any miles on the truck, I would buy new calipers/brackets. I bought mine from rockauto and was a direct bolt in. Search DTR for big brakes in the 2nd gen section.
My 2nd gen brakes were done and had to buy all new rotors/calipers/pads anyways. I bought slotted rotors and hi-temp brake pads. I can lock-up the tires at will, stop 15-25ft shorter and from a stop, push the throttle down hard and break the rear loose, burn off a 20-30ft off one of the tires. I run a dana 80 arb locker
All most like a muscle car, but I have pick-up bed.

CORed it changes it from the inverted Y type steering to the T type. Which is hard to tell from that picture. One of the benefits is that the toe angle no longer changes as the axle cycles through its movement arc. It is also significantly beefier.
the thread referenced below has some additional info on it as well as one of the posters has a link to some picutres he took.

Very good mod. HIGHLY RECOMMEND. Y steering is garbage and I am sure is responsible for many a wreck.

Same goes for 3rd gen front brakes. The stock fronts are WEAK. You won't believe the difference unless you have read a bunch of reviews. Very easy to do, not very expensive. '04 bracket from the dealer, '04 pads and rotors from the parts store. Keep in in the back of your mind that when you need new bearings to consider replacing the rotor backing plate so that it matches the larger diameter rotor. The backing plate is sandwiched between the bearing and knuckle.
To add to what BarryG said, the T style also won't flex from the bend in the draglink, or flop up and down causing "death wobble" allowing the toe to fling in and out while the truck tries to shake the cab off. :P

Or...does this upgrade not fit the 95
