4BT Performance goodies

Hell all. Been a real long time since I've done much on here. I have a project in the works, whereby I am placing a 4BT into a 1974 IHC Scout II. I have an NV4500, bellhousing, clutch, transfer case etc etc. I found places for adapters for the 4BT to trans, and I can fab just about anything, so no problem on any of that.

BUT...... 105 HP, 265 Ft*Lbs is not going to excite me

I have heard some talk on here about 4BT performance, and even recal a post of a guy with a little ranger pickup running 10's with one. Obviously that is a very trick piece. I am looking for 250HP, 450 Ft*LBs in that region.

So what is the scoop. I understand they have a rotary pump, and were also made with inline pumps. Injector type ?? same as the 12 valve 5.9's, but only four of them not six ?? etc etc just basic stuff like this to get me started. Is there a good website for 4BT junkies ????

Don't sell it short in stock form, I have the 105Hp stocker in a 79 K20 GMC and I have no issues with its speed. Use the general rotary 1st gen cheap hopups and you shouldn't want more in a Scout.

You notice any problem with the 4 bangs versus 6 bangs in a cycle (2 revolutions). I've heard they can be tough on your driveline.

Piers has built a couple lately, cool little engines!
One for a shot at a land speed record and one in the shop now is for a 5k rpm puddle jumper. You could call him up and I'm sure he will give you some ideas

Not really, it vibrates more than the 6.

I don't have a ton of miles on it yet, but once you are past idle, I don't feel any vibrations at all.

I know your already thinking about a 4bt and maybe a 6cy. This is my fathers Scout its a 3.4L Inline 6, it is using the factory turbo, and tranny. The gearing really sucks 4speed tops out at about 60 and everything is redlined but great for on the job.

Ill see if i can figure out which engine it is it ight be a generator engine.

That's not a Scout II--it's a 1980 Scout Terra. It looks to be a Cummins 3.4L 6at in there.

I'm also looking to swap a 4bta into my 1980 Scout II in place of the original Nissan Diesel SD33T it has in there. The SD33T is a nice little motor and very reliable, but it has NO power (about the same power as the 4 cylinder gas Scouts) and it doesn't like to start when it's cold out.
