47re trans performance
47re trans performance
Im looking to do some performance upgrades to my 1996 cummins with auto trans. How much do i dare with a stock trans? If i build up my stock trans to handle 350 to 400 horse power what is needed? What order should i do it? this is a daily driver with moderate towing duty. I just want a little more. Not a race truck but just fun to drive. I already installed gauges and a 4" msrp exhaust. The fuel plate is stock and so is the intake. Do i need to go with billet shafts and billet flex plate or can i do a valve body, shift kit and torque converter? Just want to do it in the right order so im not busting stuff. Thanks.
I know an 01, with a 47RE, that had a Valve Body only....from DTT. He was at 375 hp for 3 yrs and never had trouble.

This would work if your converter is healthy and cost in the $450-600 range. Definately do valve body first. Never do an aftermarket converter w/o a valve body first.
Stock tranny can only handle an extra 60 hp. With yours being 10+ yrs old I would add nothing till tranny was upgraded.
