Question 4 gsk fueling question.....

Getting the 4gsks put on my truck has been one of the best mods even though the smoke pedal is super 'touchy' now. However it seems that the 'fueling curve' has been stretched out a lot over the rpm band(ie governor arm travel slowed down across fuel plate....)...... great that's what I expected but now
full fuel has jumped from 2000 rpm to above 3000 rpm. I struggle to get 18-20psi
in that range.... Between these rpm there's zero smoke..... so I need more fuel! Afc, timing etc has all been adjusted. If I start playing around with the position of the fuel plate(ie full forward and watch out for turbo overboost and egt above 3000rpm) that should
fix it right?????
Any other ideas???

Im about to do

a 4K as well... I need advise as towards the best way to do it, and what to expect. I run a banks plate and the truck runs well with it now, will it or should it affect my boost as well?

Now i raised your question with one of my own.. Id try what u said.. or get a more aggressive plate.. that will increase ur fuel bigtime...

Tx

Well the 4 gsk on a 5 speed is a great mod. You'll have a way snappier throttle response and another 30 flywheel hp(so 20 ish at the wheels I guess). Actually I've never taken her more than 3600 but getting to 3300-3400rpm is really nice. You've got to watch out when you back off though from here as with my set up(stock turbo no blowoff) I get turbo bark. It only happened a couple of times until I got used to not backing off suddenly to change gear.
As for doing it is quite a bit longer job than the 3gsk's as you have to install 60lb
valve springs with it. I think once I get the truck adjusted right(maybe backing off the governor springs too....????) boost should be the same just a much wider powerband above 2000rpm. I'll be tweaking her this week!
to be continued......

What did you use to hold up the valves?

smoke

Between these rpm there's zero smoke.....
Smoke is not related to effecient power at all. Smoke is just un burned fuel and all for looks.

re: smoke

You're absolutely right! but I'm talking about pedal to the metal so getting less than 20 psi and no smoke means a lack of fuel to me. It means I need to turn up the fuel a bit somehow or back off those governor springs a bit if you can for that rev band after that it's up to me how much. I want a clean burning truck as much as anyone......

I actually didn't do the install myself as I though it was over my head plus didn't feel like fumbling around in the snow up here to do it myself

4gsks basically open up the fuel pump for the 12valves taking your rpm limit/defuel up from around 2800 to 4000rpm. It also seems to mean that my governor arm travels a lot slower up the fuel plate for any given rpm than it used to which seems to be why my fuel is not coming on 100% at 2000rpm like it used to. I'm sure someone on this site can chime in with a more technical response than that but that is what I know.

I think he is thinking of valve springs instead of the governor springs

WOW someone that understands the action of GSK and the interaction with the governor lever.
