4" down pipe

Last week I put on Rips new 4" system and had a question for yall. The 4" down pipe is too big for the location of the pipe so I did what it said to ( pound the pipe in ) my question is right where the pipe would have touched the hose is there any way the heat is gona mess this hose up? I wrapped it in heat tape but the pipie is about 1/16 away from the exhuast Is this ok? Have any of you had any problems with this?

Also what is heat tape rated at?

sorry but what exactly are you talking about? I'm assuming this is a problem that only occurs on automatic equipped trucks?

I think so, I think the hose has something to do with the tranny. as you look from the top down and look down the pipe, to the right side there is a hose about 1/4 inch, its about 10inches down from the exhuast housing. hope this helps

The auto equipped trucks have a heat exchanger tank bolted to the side of the engine, under the exhaust manifold. The exchanger has transmission lines goint to/from it, and a coolant line.

Yes, you can bang a flat spot in the down pipe, but try swinging the pipe more towards the frame.

*Edit* I just went out and looked a couple of trucks in the shop and it looks like 1/8" or 3/16" is all you'll clear. It'll be fine.

My 94 auto is a 12 valve with the downipipe about 1/2" away from the frame and it is not near any tranny lines. I'm not sure how much different a Rip downpipe is compared to a MBRP downpipe.

My 4" exhaust is also next to the heat exchanger is I heated my exhaust pipe and slowly squeezed it in a vise right where it would touch the pipe coming out of the heat exchanger. Then I wraped the whole downpipe and the small pipe with header wrap, works great.

I hate to be a party-pooper here, but won't banging a dent in the downpipe cause a restriction that would negate some of the benefit of the 4" downpipe?

You would have to bang a pretty big dent to restrict the flow. I think they are talking more about dimpling it than denting it. I've got a 4" downpipe on my 01 auto and I haven't had anyproblems at all. Even when I changed the cooler line out for the one with the plug for a temp sensor. Had it there for at least 50K miles.

DPG your so right, but we, I mean I don't bang anything thats not breathing But as for the down I pressed it in about 1/4" just to give to a air gap. PLEASE BE NICE TO YOUR TRUCKS DON'T BANG THEM, THERE ARE OTHER THINGS TO BANG THAT ARE FUN TO BANG

CTD NUT,

You are correct we sell that same down pipe for the 12 and 24 valve trucks and the bend is brought down far enough so there is plenty of room aorund the tranny. Remember too the MBRP muffler is packed with a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool too at a cost very close to empty shell mufflers out there. We even have a special bracket for the 12 vavle trucks so you don't have that "ugly and mud and water catching" tail pipe hanger at the end of the tail pipe, makes the hanger dissappear up under the truck out of sight!!! Makes it last longer too as it doesn't hold that mud and start corrosion etc.
