I can say this much. I just went from 3:55's to 4:10's & I love it. The 3:73 are available from Randy's. You can get Spicers or Yukons. they seem to be hot on selling those Yukons for some reason. When you buy everything you need to do a total rebuild, you have about the same money in it. The Yukpons come on as a gear set 7 you have to buy a bearing set. The Spicers come with all but the carrier bearings, & includes shims, etc. Not much money difference IMO. If I did not have to tow anything, I would go with 3:55's. if i even thought I was going to tow & was running over 33 inch tall tires, i would go with the 3:73's. The carrier is the same for 355,373,or 410's.
I am running 3 inch BFG's & I love the power & acceleration the 4:10's have gave me. I am wondering if I need to take it to my dealer & have them change the ratio in the ECM. What do you guys think? I thought it would have thrown my speedometer off, but I GPS checked it, & it is dead on.
355's for 33 & under tires 373 for 35 to 37's & 410's for anything over 37's.

if my truck was cursed with an auto i wouldn't mind the 4.10s, but with the
5spd its totally different. i used a 02' this weekend with the 3.55s and it did the job just fine.

naw man, i think it was just a typo. i believe he is calling bluff on your figures! and so am i

30 mpg in these trucks is only available if you go off the overhead. Which isnt accurate, even on a new stock truck.

everytime i look at my overhead it tells me temp. and direction, if there is a way to check mpg on my 12valve through the overhead, yall let me know . my millage is hand calculated every fill-up.
i think i might need to read the thread title again, for some reason im talking about mpg and not gears

Does that blow your mind? That just happened!

Anywho, sounds like we should swap gears Clutch. I just don't know if i'm ready. 4.10 would work well with the 40's but some reason I like the way the 3.55's treat it.

I was teasing, and I meant mpg not mph how to ruin a joke.....

Anyway, 3:55 suck towing, your mileage drops like crazy, mine goes from 19mpg regular interstate at 70mph to 11mpg towing a small horse trailer with 2000lbs in it.

I had a 4:10 with auto and fuel consumption was not as different, I had 16mpg empty and 14mpg loaded with 10,000lbs.

I believe 3:73 is the best of both worlds, if you travel and tow a lot it might be worth the cost, especially if you have a 2wd.

i looked into the 3.73s and they seem to only drop rpm about 100 the 3.55s drop like 500. my main reason for droping gears is to tow in 4th instead of 5th
the 02 i used was a 5spd with the 3.55s and it pulled the 32' just fine, i just wanted to see what they were like before i did the swap.

already have a couple place searching there inventory just havnt heard back, since im going through that trouble im looking for an 02 axle with the rear discs, if not ill set the new ring and pinion, plus the gears will be easier than the axle to keep layin around if i ever decide to go back

I want 3:73 so I can tow in 5th otherwise I am stuck with 65mph at 2500rpm towing a horse trailer.

Are all the axles with rear disks 3:73s ?

Calculated using imperial gallons? (1 Imp. Gal = 4.54 L)
or Calculated using US gallons? (1 US Gal = 3.78 L)
