3K GSK kit. How hard can it be???

3K GSK kit. How hard can it be???

Should I tackle this project myself or have a mechanic do it???

Its not easy at all...depends on how mechanical you are. I started it, then ended up with about 5 friends, two of whom are mechanics coming over then it got done right...But with the amount of beer I had to buy for all of them I think it may have been cheaper to go to a mechanic to begin with. So far that is the only thing I have done that I couldn't do myself and I have done the injectors, pulled the tranny, wired the gauges, and all that other fun stuff.

Mainly it was just A LOT of tuning to get it to run properly.

I thought it was very easy. I'm no mechanic, but I read and reread the intructions. it took me about 2 and a half hours the first truck I did.

Take your time and go through the side it's Cake. it will be one of the best Mods to your 12 valve that you will ever make!

I also found the job not terribly difficult. By removing the fender liner and going through the side, I could clearly see what I was doing. Follow the directions and ask questions here if you get stuck. I did have to adjust the Gov. arm after the GSK install but even that wasn't too bad.

I thought it was pretty easy myself. And mine didn't need any adjustments to run properly. I just took my time and double checked everything.

How competent are you as a mechanic?

I did mine and you can do yours. I did not have to make any fine tuning adjustments after I finished mine.

I did the 4k gsk w/ valve springs in about 3 1/2 hours. I thought it was easy just time comsuming. As others has stated just take your time and follow directions you'll figure it out. Also I went in from the side.

You can go through the afc housing or the side of the pump. IMHO, the top seems to be a PITA, but I know a few people who do it this way. There is a tamper-proof wire you will have to cut to do it through the side. To each their own.

Took me an hour or so. Make sure to double check your caliper measurements! I messed up on the first one and double checked, I had made about 1/2 turn too many in on that one and backed it off to the measurement on the vernier calipers. Measure twice...right? I found counting the "clicks" was not reliable at all.

Fairly easy job, messy with all the oil in the pump, but not tough really. I was not expecting a big change with a 215 pump, but I was very wrong. Very good upgrade, especially considering the price..

I did mine had no calipers and was under a shade tree poor choice of location but it wasnt too hard just aggravating theres not much room to work I didnt take out the fender liner that would have been so much easier.
