I was thinking about trying to fit 38's under a stock hieght 3500 with a leveling kit by doing some massive fender cutting and flares....Any ideas? Comments? I was thinking using the duallie spacers with single RW wheels so I could turn. I think the 38's would be about 19 inches from the centerline of the WMS radiased all the way around.

 

If you go and put 38's on her the largest problem you will probably encounter will be a MUCH larger turning radius. I currently run 305-70R-16's (approx 31" dia) and my front tires have about 1/2" of clearance from frame when steering wheel is turned fully. If I am on dirt, I occasionally get a light rub on frame when suspension compresses in a turn. Good Luck with your experiment!!

 

that's why I was going to leave the dualie spacers on.. to sit the wheels further out with SRW wheels.

 

i don't think you will ever be able to cut enough to get them to fit, i have some 12.50 x20 michilins that i keep thinking about putting on my dually. they would look killer but i think i would need atleast 8"s of lift and plenty of cutting. but good luck with it.

 

I've got a set of 305/70/16's with a leveling kit on my truck and I get some nasty rub at full lock to the right ONLY. Left is fine. I'm hoping once I get the truck aligned, it will help a lot. But who knows. The tires are rubbing on the lower control arm on the right side.

 

I don't think you'll be able to cut enough either. You're limited as to how much fender you can cut out by the inside wheel well. You'd have to cut out more than any flare would be able to cover too. Maybe with a 3 inch body lift.

 

Big blue is right. I have the same problem with my 305's. The fenderwell is plenty big for the 305's but it rubbs on the lower control arm. BIG BLUE and alignment won't help I tried.

 

I think you will have to run a small lift. I think a 2" might work, but I would recommend the 4.5" SJ. Im fitting 37s with just the 4.5". But I believe the 3500s sit a lil lower???

 

Sounds like all your really going to do is mess up a good truck. What you want to do, could be done. But not your way, You seem determind to spend a dine to save a nickle, and your results will show it.

 

actually I was trying to get the center of gravity lower and the axles up higher. Not nickel and dime the project. Besides I think 4 new wheels and tires plus 2 sets of flares would be just as expensive as a lift kit and just the tires. I'll try not to sound so cheap next time.

 

Anything is possible with money. I think it would work for an off-road only rig. If you were to drive on the road much the rubbing might get on your nerves. I think it would be awesome to see, if done right. If looks aren't as high on the list as function is then you could even trim the lower part of the front door below the lowest hinge to alleviate some of the rub, but at the sacrifice of possible loosing seal.

The concept just sounded odd, most people will lift a vehicle to install bigger tires. So the two cost are really only a portion of the overal budget. You would not want a 6"lift and run arround on stock tires, it would look goofy. And normally you would not try and run 38" tires befor a lift. I more then understand the low center of gravity ideal, but 38" tires are going to need alot more clearance then any amount of body trimming you might do.

 

I dont see it happening without at least a 4.5" lift.....

You could probably do it with smaller tires....35 or 36's...that is if you dont mind cutting your fenders.

 

Yeah, I think if you want to keep a low center of gravity, I would suggest trimming+35-36" tires. Also, gotta get the right backspacing.

 

I stopped at the shop last night and mocked up a 38 to the truck. It's looking like with a stock dodge SRW, and the factory duallie wheel adapter spacer and trimming the fenders through the front bumper and the bottom corners of the doors that I will need at least a 2.5" lift to make it a comfortable fit. The rear is no problem. IT sits so high stock and the wheel wheels are so high all I will have to do is round out the fenders with some cutting. As far as I can tell anyway. I might just get the 4.5" or 3" lift to be on the safe side of this project though. I'm determined on cutting those fenders either way. I might just start with cutting and a leveling kit then work my way up to a 3" than a 4" lift is need be. I'll post some pics when available.
