3000 Springs

I am going to get the TST kit to fix the dowel pin. Is it pretty much strait foward kit? Also I was wondering about the 3000 govoner springs. Do you need a pyrometer guage or boost? Can my stock auto hold up. I am just wanting a cheap mild upgrade that the tranny can hold up to? About how hard/time consuming is the KDP and the govoner springs to put in? Any feed back will be appreciated. the truck is a 95 12v 4x4 automatic, 3.55 gears 158000 miles.

Here is my writeup about TST

in a nutshell, yup is is really straight forward...

Good gauges are ALWAYS THE FIRST THING taht should go into a new truck when you are about to start BOMBing the heck out of it, Your stock auto will love the GSK, i have no experience with an auto and a GSK but I do with a 4000 RPM kit and a manual! HOLY COW!! :-O Before you add fuel to the ram you gotta know whats going on, so its best u get some gauges in first hand.

The KDP is easy to me IMHO in comparison to governer springs. Go thru the side of the pump rather than thru the top of the pump to minimize losing parts. It is also best to remove the driver side battery as well to facilitate your working on the truck thru the side. My KDP took me six hours or so, and My spring kit took me just as long, so i would make it a weekend deal just to be safe. My mechanical level... is much like my cooking level, i can follow directions or instructions and thats about it..

Best of luck!

Tx

Governor springs aren't bad. It ought to take a couple hours for them. Go in through the side like Tx said, PDR has good directions. The governor springs won't raise the EGT to unsafe levels by themselves, and they will not hurt the trans. It's a very safe mod.

Throw the GSK in there, and have fun. Not a bad installation, and it will in no way hurt your tranny, and i cant see it causing EGT problems either. You will love them; especially if you ever decide to add a plate.

What about 4gsk with a auto?
Is it a waste of time when the trans is goona shift around 3100?
Or will the 3k flatten out prior to shifting? I picked up a #10 plate a 3gsk kit to install next week but I'm now second guessing myself and wondering if I should have got the 4k? Nothing P###ed me of more on my 24v than the defueling the comp did at 2700 prior to up grading it to a drag and I dont want this 12v to do the same? I think I can pull the shift point down a bit but if it starts to defuel as hard as the comp did????

If you deecide you want the 4k, then buy the extra smaller spring, and put it in, and you have a 4k. You have to install the springs that came with your 3k anyway, so go ahead, and do it, and add the smaller springs to it if you think you want 4k.

I'm still pulling hard at 3000RPM. Max RPM is about 3450 with stock valve springs. If you set your gov lever fairly low on the plate, power will start to come on at about 1800RPM. This will be great for your stock auto as it will build up some pressure to hold the power. Talk to Piers next time you're in there.
