265's on a 1999 dually, No???

I've searched the site and it looks like I am stuck with 235's on my dually without spacers. Just wanted to make sure. I have 235's on it now.

Don't know how heavy this truck will be loaded during it's like with me, but chances are it will get loaded pretty heavy.

Thanks,
Dave

235's are as wide as you can go without swapping up to the 00 - 02 wheels or adding spacers...

yeah, the 00-02 rims have a bigger offset. So they let you mount bigger tires. Right now im running 255's. But next time around ( a set of tires only last me about a year or 10k miles) i think im going with 265's or even 285's. Im gunna buy em used because 500 bucks a year for tires is kinda INSANE.

235/85's and 265/75's are pretty much the exact same height....but the 265 is 30mm (1.2") wider.

Exactly. My last set of tires, I ran 265's on the front and 235's on the duals. This works great in the mud. The wider tires in the front seem to provide more traction and keep that heavy diesel motor from sinking so far into the mud. The only bad thing about his is you can rotate your front tires to the back. Mine started cupping out and there wasn't a thing I could do about it. I'll probably never run two different sizes again. I'm wanting to go back to skinnier tires now that I have had these 285s. They rob power like crazy. When I had my truck stock a month ago, you could tell the lose of power in 6th gear after putting on these oversized suckers. It was bad. I think I'll run 245's or 255's next time and gain some of the power back.

I sure didn't know the '02 rims had more ofset than my '99's. That is news to me. I really never saw any difference, or noticed it. If that is the case, you could go to a salvage and buy a set of newer rims and run wider tires that way. They'll bolt on, but you'll have to have the newer simulators too. The '99s had 4 hand holes and the '02s have 8.

The later years had 7. Could also look into Ford rims. The pre-superduty trucks ran 235's, and had a 8 on 6.5" bolt pattern. I'd imagine they'd have a bit more offset than the Dodge rims meant for 215s.

Im runnin 265s all the way around on my truck. Got a good deal on some spacers on ebay. No way these tires would fit without spacers

To my knowledge, which is limited, the Ferd rims have a slighly different hub bore diameter if I remember correctly.

i am running 245's on my dually, I just have to watch the air preasure. when I am loaded down with my steel 4 horse gooseneck trailer and 4 horses and gear for a weekend of showing all of them. I am guessing about 10-11,000 pounds and the tires were only about 1/4 apart, to be safe I put tire shine , or vasaline between the two tires. so when if they ever do rub there will be a lubracant between them . learned that one from a buddy that served In the motor pool for 10+ years seams to work for me

I'm also running with 285. They fit with no problems. Still, I have a spacer between the duals anyway.

Of course 265's and 285's physically fit.....

What is actually safe and legal is another story......duals that are nearly touching is not acceptable and is a serious safety risk. It won't pass the safety inspection around here.

gotcha. well there is no inspection here so i guesss we can get away with it. 265 on my truck never touched or rubbed no matter how heavy the load. with the 285, they touch once in a great while if i am pulling somthing over around 20k pounds.
