Great info, thanks so much Brett. I'm just not sure how to clean the top of the block without causing any damage. What kind of product do I use and with what grit???

I cleaned mine with gasket solvent and a scraper, in the areas this didn't work well I got these small wheels that go on a drill from silver auto, there like a fine abrasive cloth material they worked well, just be carefull to remove the debris only( emery cloth would work to). Fill the cylinders with rages before you start and vacuum out when done. Wipe down the head and block mating surfaces with a cloth wet with lacquer thinner or acetone to remove any last bits of oil before you put it to together. Also remeber to suck out the stud holes in the block before you thread them in. I hope that helps, good luck.

That stone that Tate was speaking off would do a good job other than a light abrasive pad wheel, just for the gasket material, no metal removal.

Wasn't there a thread about a cometic gasket (or something like that) that eliminated the need for o-ringing? That sounds like the thing to use!

To get the build up on the block off, use the coarse side of the stone on the edge and scrape it off. Use some water, helps keep the stone from plugging up. Once you get that done, flat stone it with the coarse side, will take off the high spots, and then use the fine side and it will finish it off.

I like the flat stone idea, I'd need to plug the oil holes feeding the rockers and the pushrod holes real good though.

Thanks. Those are the exact directions I got from Josh at PDR. When I get the head back, that is the way I'll go...

Jamie we are just using a cut modified gasket in our common rail trucks when we do the heads on them. I can get you the gasket in that you ned and the one that PDR told us to use for about 140.00 I run this gasket in my truck and have had no problems with it.
