Head gasket problems on 24V???

??? 2001; 2500; H.O.; 6 sp; 4X4; 53000 mi. Does anyone know whether or not the 24V engine is prone to head gasket leaks? Standing in front of the engine, the left rear corner of the mating surface between the head and block was squirting coolant. Took it to Cummins and the Service Mgr told me where it was leaking before I told him. He said "that's where they leak alright." Since this is my first diesel, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. I sure haven't heard of any problems and know several folks who have the same engine, but I thought I would throw it out and see what kind of response I got. Have a good day.

Kwik Kurts gasket went, mine went and a few others on here have failed. [not stock] No NOS or Poo Pane on mine. 8)<br>A stock ETH not warmed up in a cold climate and pulling a trailer is very prone to blowing a head gasket. A few oil patch folks with stock trucks that drove without a warm up have blown the gasket too.

We should S-can the head gaskets altogether. If we mill the tops of the pistons down, precision lap the mating surfaces, o-ring the water and oil passages the head gasket troubles will be a thing of the past.
Now, where are we gonna find a surace grinder that will hold about 50 millionths tolerance for that large of part? :

Scotty, its high time we did our best to blow that o-ringed head gasket you have on your truck

Blown head gaskets are very common on ETHs. Even stockers are blowing them, but adding a timing box along with propane virtually assures a failure.
