Question 24 valve p pump

I got 01 that I been thinking about p pumping. I was wondering if it be better in the long run. And is there anybody on here running a 24 valve p pump. What all do you need. I got a friend wanting to trade for my 24 valve pump and stuff. For his p pump and all his stuff to do it. Any help would help out a lot. Thank You TD

the stuff I'm already running on my 01
airdog 100 fuel system
45hp injectors
super b turbo
4in from turbo back
cold air intake
I know I cant run this if I p pump, but I'm running a Blue Chip fuel management adds (100 hp)

There are several threads on here and other forums that will dive in depth and explain all the parts you will need and include part numbers as well. Basically you're going to need a 12V gear housing and cover, a P pump, p pump gear, injection lines, an intake spacer, oil lines off a 12V to feed oil to the p pump, a cam sensor relocation bracket, seals and gaskets, either a billet or a 12V tappet cover, a throttle bracket and throttle cable......I realize there are many smaller things I'm missing but that is the basics. If you're going to go to all the work to make a mechanical engine, might as well replace the cam with an upgraded one with a fuel pump lobe, and add a 12V mechanical pump, or order a mechanical piston pump for an 8.3L cummins, they will work good too and bolt right up and move a bit more fuel than the 5.9 pumps will. The piston pumps are cheap and if plumbed correctly will give you a lot more reliability and performance than an electric one.....But I also realize a lot of people run electric pumps and have no issues with them, but I have had nothing but problems with them and try to avoid anything electrical if I can avoid it.

cumminsperformanceparts.com for example sells a complete kit minus the p7100 but this will give you a example of what you would need to start finding for parts. you blue chip FMS will now be worthless so you could sell that for 500-700 depending how old it is. do alot of research not just on this forum but comp diesel forum has good info too.

this is something I have been debating to do also. its this direction or when my HO VP finally dies replace with a SO VP ??

You have an auto or manual truck? How much mechanical ability do you have? There are a bunch of stuff required to make a 24VP truck into a 24V P7100 truck. Best and easiest way is to find a kit conversion kit. You will need to up the pressure on your air dog (best is just to get rid of it) and run the stock cummins lift pump. The 01/02 trucks use a cam gear tach ring, which is for the tach. Without it, you have no AC, cruise and the charge system will not function. You will need a 12V camshaft or aftermarket camshaft to run the 12V lift pump.

To me its easier and cheaper to just throw in a complete 12V engine and sell the 24VP engine.

FYI the APPS module will bolt to the side of the P7100.
