22.5 tires on 22s.....
a friend of mine is currently running 22.5 tires on 22" rims........seriously he is driving around like this
in a srw 3500 cummins 2004!
what do you guys think about that?

not safe not safe not safe...........waiting to peel the tire off the rim while rounding a corner is he? cause it will sooner or later.
this is the profile of a 24.5 alcoa, but they're the same as 22.5/ notice the taper of the bead seat. the tires match that seat. "passenger vehicle" rims have a much more vertical seat - 90 degrees. for bead retention. class 8 rims and tires are designed for huge loads straight down through the sidewall and beadseat. thats 80,000-120,000 of loaded truck is what keeps the beadseated on the taper. and the taper has a larger surface area of contact for load distribution and bead retention.
heres my 22.5 alcoas turned down to 22.0" with Nitto 420s 305/45r22 on them.

the adapters weight 40lbs a piece. all steel. studs from a big rig supply shop. I have zero concerns with the adapters.
the way they play out in the back of my truck is. the adapter bolts the 2 rims together with the 33mm studs. torqued to 450ftlbs. i just use the 8 lug pattern in the middle and pull it on and off as an assembly as needed. just like 1 single large tire. no different.

ooohh nooo...22.5"s...just did inventory today at work, really didnt want to see another rim today, lol. But anyways, I'm really shocked that he hasnt had problems yet. Like already mentioned, the bead design is totally different, not to mention the 1/2" size diff. And as stiff as an OTR tire is, it's amazing it even took to a bead and held and didn't blow off before it even made it on the truck. I'm curious as to what kinda pressure's he's running, and what brand. Michelin, for example, the inside of their beads are more rounded off, making it probably impossible to get any kind of seal on a LT rim.

haha i bought that truck, iam still running the 22.5 tires on a 22" rim they work great and cheap for 37" $800 bucks cant beat that sure there kinda skinny but i like the look with the wheel spacer. and them tires aint comming off that bead its a huge pain in the *** to mount and dismount.

This is just a bad bad situation. And to top it off, those look like recaps from what i can tell... Which is illegal as a steer. The reason they are so hard to mount/dismount is because of the heavy duty steel in the bead, and a truck is going to put a lot more pressure on a tire than a guy with a tire bar will.

People will never cease to amaze me...God forbid something happens...but when/if something does happen I hope no one else is involved…
Also the legality issue of it…when insurance figures out that you have the wrong size tire they will not cover your damages…a guy I worked with had this happen, he had 17” tires on 16.5” rims…had a blow out and an accident…investigation showed this and insurance refused his claim…
The bead of a tire is designed to fit with the corresponding diameter and face of a wheel, the surfaces are made to match…what’s so hard to understand about that?
