From what I gather, Propane on the Cummins isn't a very good idea.

I am interested in what other people have to say though!!

Merrick Cummings Jr

Re:2003 HO propane assist

I have had propane on my 12 valve for over two years. It flows anytime the boost surpasses 10 psi. I will install on the 03 as soon as the 97 sells.

jt

Lots of pros and cons on propane but if it is done right it could be a very good thing. I went to it, got to say it takes alot of work to get it right temp, volume, boost pressure. But it does ad 80hp is it worth the 800.00 plus in the cost for that much hp NO I do'nt think so. There is much more out there you can buy and get the best bang for the buck than propane. The pros are 2+ mpg, cleaner burn using big injectors. cons the cost of propane per mile and the damage it could do if not set up right. I need help with this still. I will keep looking over all we will see when the inspection comes up in three months if the propane will over come the big injectors?????? on the machine OverFueled

You can build your own system a lot less then what they sell for. I built mine for a 1/3 of what ATS sells their for. And I built the same system they sell. You can get everything from your local LP Gas Company. Or I can give you a phone number where you can get information and the parts you need. There is a pic attached to this if you would like to see the system.

Re:2003 HO propane assist

I agree with the majority of the above reponses. If you are looking for increased performance, stick with diesel performance upgrades, fueling boxes, injectors, turbos etc. Propane is not detrimental to diesel engines, IF and I mean IF, properly set-up. Excessive amounts of propane, can cause high combustion pressures that lead to blown head gaskets. I know ( blown twice testing). Most Ford trucks install propane, because they have limilted and costly means of increasing HP. If you are still hung-up on using propane, make sure you install a vapor type system, not liquid like a Bar-B-Q style. Vapor is easier to regulate proper pressures, and is safer. Again, my recommendation is to stay away from propane.

Steve
