2001 "turn buckle"

I know this topic has probably been discussed (beat to death) but I stopped in this morning and saw a picture posted of a turn buckle set up for the 01 waste gate. YES! I've tried the search feature and I haven't come up with the topic with the picture. I run an EZ edge on my 01 and am impressed with it's improvements. I would however like to gain the advantages of lower egts that the increased boost would offer while towing. Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Re:2001 "turn buckle"

I have the turnbuckle on my '01 with EZ. I can still get it over 1200 EGT towing my fiver, mountains or flat it doesn't seem to matter!
I have never seen the boost over 29 pounds!

Were or how do you get the piture of the turn buckle that sandman is showing?
I would like to install it, I have the EDGE Tow Pro installed now and would like to see if this will help even more.

You might want to check to see if you have a boost leak or check to see if the turnbuckle is not tight. I think that most people with the turnbuckle (myself included) are seeing more boost and less egt's than you are.

Same Here, EZ w/trunbuckle = 29 pound boost. My EGTs are lower but I do not tow. I can say for sure my EGTs are way lower than they were when the truck was stock.

What does this do for you exactly? I am pretty new to the diesel side of things. My turbo is only getting about 17 PSI at WOT. I have a superchip programmer installed and a BHAF. This seems very low compared to everone else? I have a 4" Exhaust coming so i can hook up my Pyro meter then.

In stock form the CTD will max out in the 17-20 psi range. With the addition of an EZ edge which is also a "boost fooler" the waste gate can be "toyed" with to gain more boost. This in turn will lower the EGT which comes in handy towing grades. The turnbuckle being discussed is a mod that is for the 2001 with auto trans as the waste gate actuator is "hard lined" to the turbo housing. Others have a rubber line with a brass elbow that can be changed to alter the boost.

Here's the pic I got off of Edge's website:

I used to only get 20 lbs. of boost, now when towing I can get up to 34. Don't even need to watch the EGT's anymore, at least until I BOMB it some more..............

Stock truck, No.

Risk, Not really.

Anything over the 20 or so lbs of boost and the wastegate opens, block this and you'd set an overboost code and the engine would defuel to stop the overboost situation.

So if anything, putting it on a stock truck wouldn't do anything
but cause the check engine light to come on and set a code in the computer.

To see any benefits you'd need a boost fooler (most fueling boxes have one built in).

Stock truck doesn't have the fuel to spin the turbo much faster than the wastegate is set for anyway.
