20 mpg ?

just bought my 01 and it has a 5inch lift with 35s is it possible to get 20mpg with that set up. My first tank it figured out to 15mpg but i dont belive that the speedo is recalibrated. Would it be easier to get 20mpg if i would just level it and put 33s on it?

The lift is killing mpg. The tires aren't helping that much, either.

Dropping it to a basically levelling kit and 33s should help you pick up 2-3mpg.

I don't know if 33's will help much it's the width of the tire that cuts into the rolling resistance,a narrow like a 255 85 16 might help more.
Hohn is correct about the lift.

not sure how much it compares to the added weight and rolling resistance but wouldn't the benefit outweigh the cost on taller tires like 35's in that they add better freeway cruising gearing, ie lower RPM at same speed as 33's or even the 265's??

Both the lift and the tires are really hurting you. The most important factor in fuel mileage at highway speeds is wind resistance because it is proportional to the square of the velocity. Both of them are raising the truck so you have more air going underneath it which is a bad thing. The tires also probably have a wide contact patch which increases rolling resistance some. The benefit in gearing does not make up for the windage and rotational inertia of the taller tires. If you are looking for mileage and run mostly highway, try a 235/85/16.

In town it is slightly different. The real problem with tall tires there is the increased rotational inertia. It takes a lot of energy to accelerate those tires up to speed all the time.

In town easy driving 18.5 mpg
on the hwy cruise set @ 65mph 21mpg w/the current mods listed. Even w/diesel at $4.69 I still can't see the cost benefit of buying a ricer. My break even point for buying a ricer I think about 4 years to payback, not worth it IMO.

Ditto ... aero + rolling resistance. I'm also using the 235/85/16's. I'm using the BFG Commercial TA's, M&S rated. Great off road & on ice & snow.
