1997 12V Gov. Spring Seat Height

If I was to shim the governor solid in my truck, which spring seat should I use? If I am not mistaken, I think it is the second seat. Is this the seat that partly controls the idle? Does anyone know what the compressed height should be for a shim if I was looking for about 5000 to 5500 rpm. This has been done before and I just need a rough starting point.

I'm haveing a lot of problems with the 4k kit I have right now and I just put the stock springs back in. don't know why but my pump don't like them. Piers said very few pumps act like mine in fact I'm only like the 2nd or 3rd one guy said :'( :'(

Re:1997 12V Gov. Spring Seat Height

was looking for about 5000 to 5500 rpm
Why do you need to rev to 5k? I cant see how the bottom end would hold up on a CTD revvin past ~4k. Just a question, dont take offense to it. I was just curious :.
LIGHTBULB... Why dont you just REMOVE ALL of your springs :... That should get you to 5k .

Maybe he's making a pulling truck. I wonder what a CTD spun up to 5000-5500 RPM would sound like? Probably kinda eerie.

Re:1997 12V Gov. Spring Seat Height

call schied or EEP I heard their trucks pull down the track at 7k+
As for shich spring in the pack does the gov work I know now. The 4k kit comes with three springs. you take two of your stock springs out and leave the big one when you put the new ones it. on the 4k kit the 2nd to smallest spring does the gov work. I took one at a time out and replaced it with the stock springs nothing happend with the other springs but when I put the stock spring back in in place of the 3rd biggest or second smallest the gov went back to stock. it seemed to me that the next size bigger spring that you replace with the 4 k kit is the same as stock. but the gov spring is a lot stiffer than the stock spring. as for the smaller spring that you add to the spring pack I don't know what it does becasue I took it out the first time and nothing changed.
