Search for "fuel plate" in the 12-valve forum. On a p-pump fuel and smoke are controlled by the 1. cam/fuel plate, the profile of plate that you have, and its position in the pump, 2. the AFC housing position, and the 3. the starwheel adjustment.

Try this threat:

TST has some good instructions:

http://www.tstproducts.com/installat...tructions.aspx

and this site has some good pics:

There is tons of info on this in the 12-valve forum.

Everything toward the front of the truck/motor. The breakoff screw is on the AFC housing if it is still present on the pump. Hope this helps.

Moving the plate towards the cab will reduce fuel and smoke, moving the plate forward towards the grill will give more fuel and more smoke. Sliding the AFC housing forwards will give you more pre-boost fuel and more smoke, and moving the AFC housing back towards the firewall will reduce pre-boost fuel. A little goes a long way with with the AFC housing adjustment. TST recommends you keep the new plate in the stock position, slide the AFC housing full forward, and control your smoke with the starweel. Their instructions are the best I've seen, worth reading, see here:

alright heres what happened. for starters i moved the afc housing all the way forward and the starwheel full forward and got no extra power and no smoke.

So then i pulled the housing off, ground the plate to a 0, slid it all the way forward, reinstalled the housing full forward, and the starwheel still full forward and still got no extra power and no smoke.... What gives?

hmmm, kinda sounds like the boost line that runs from the cylinder head to the AFC housing might be disconected or leaking. If this happens the AFC arm won't get out of the way so the governer arm can get into the fueling.

Look at the cylinder head under the intake horn, there should be a small black nylon line that runs from there to the back of the AFC housing. make sure its connected and sealed up good.

let us know what you find

dosnt seem to have a boost leak in the line.

it has started smoking some now. not sure what changed? hp difference is hard to judge, being as how its in a school bus and has a horrible automatic behind it. however i thought this thing would smoke like my 24v used to with mods? it just smokes a little, but it does feel like it has more power in the upper rpm band.
