Have you done any checking on the ability of that Ford tranny to hold the torque of the Cummins ?? I'd be pretty spooky. I think I'd go with the clutch and trans that's matched to the diesel. Lar.

I dunno....a Ford C6 is pretty stout. If you can find a rollover Dodge ...you may be able to get the engine and tranny....

I am almost certain it can be done but I would look into swapping out to an NV4500. I am currently waiting for Roger at FordCummins to complete a 95 F350 4x4 crew cab to 12V Cummins with NV5600...as long as we were at it, we went with a NP241HD transfer case too. Supposed to be done in the next couple of weeks!! Only reason I would recommend NV4500 instead of NV5600 is cost....the NV5600 is pricey.

i am looking at a 97 ford 350 single wheel 4x4 crew cab 5 speed diesel. i am pretty sure i will get it, can't pass it up for the money. 4500 bucks, it need's a bed and 1k in body work. so it seems like safe money. it does have 212k on it but the motor doesn't have a bit of blow by so i figure it will last a bit and i can put a cummins in it. this will be the wife's new kiddie hauler. and it has to get better miliage than here 3500 dodge 15 pass van.

We did this a couple of years ago so bear with me. first thing is with yours being a gasser mine was an auto 460 rig, youll either have to change tanks and wire in a frame rail mounted tank switching valve or put a pressure regulator in line to the motor. As to the auto Fordcummins does sell the adapter but youll have to get a control box or you can ditch the auto buy a hydrolic master cyliner and line, pedal assembly and cut a hole in the floor for the tower to convert to a nv4500 or 5600. Roger in bigfork is a nice guy but some of his installation ideas could benefit from some refining, for AC when i did my conversion he talked about needing to build custom brackets and mounting the ford AC pump off to the side, in my own opinion thats not recommended. set the motor in measure the right front section of your crossmember and cut it to clear the dodge ac pump. then just have sombody build custom lines its so much cleaner. with the radiator get the diesel radiator support and brass radiator and then with water necks use the factory 94-98 engine water necks ect, then just have the necks on the radiator swapped. use a 1999-2003 super duty air to air cooler it fits in well and is clean youll have to cut the radiator supports and mounting brackets to clear the 3" inlet and outlet then drag it down to an exhaust shop and have them build a set of properly bent tubes.
i know this is not super detailed email or PM me if you have some questions i gladdly try to help.

Sonny,
Roger at FordCummins.com can do it either way. You can find a truck to have him convert, or let him know what you are looking for and he can find a donor truck and convert it. He gave me an estimate. Parts costs (donor truck, engine, tranny) are the major variable.
Donor truck cost was what determined the engine & tranny choice based upon how much was left in the budget. Tranny from low budget to high: ZF5, NV4500, NV5600. Engine: 1st gen, 2nd gen.
I let Roger find a donor truck for me. I have been very busy so, I just let him know what I was looking for and he found it for me. I just told him to find a truck that he would be happy driving as his own. If you are not in a hurry, it's an nice way to go. I kept an eye out and he kept an eye out and it ended up working out nicely. To find the RIGHT truck it could take a while. My truck is suposed to be done SOON, I'll post some pics and give you some impressions as soon as I get it.

Thanks, Jim. Put some pics on here when its completed. What motor/trans combo did you find for it? and how long does it take them to convert?

We ended up going with 98 12V with a NV5600. It varies on time to completion.
