12v or 24v

Which is the best for making some serious power for less? And easiest to modify?

What he said. The best year was the early 98's, they still had the 12v but had the new interior and styling. however if you do find one sonsider yourself lucky.

how much would it cost to make a 12v feel like my 24v with my current mods? what would need to be done?

Well it all depends

its a question asked many a time before. both are good, but many 24V's with a good transmission, you just plug in a box and play... instant and adjustable HP.. with a 12V u have to tinker with it, but its far less complex. So what do u like, electric gizmos? or mechanical stuff.. I myself perfer mechanical.. my sig speaks for itself... But both are easy to modify..

Hmmm i dunno what your HP is

But with a 4K GSK, a zero plate or a 100 plate (PM northslope if you dont wanna grind ur own) Pump timed to 16 Degrees or so, it will make a noticable difference.. might be right up there or so, add some 370 injectors as well and delivery valves, AND HOLD ON!!

the mods he listed are cheaper than your box. of course your dads stocker is a slug compared to your modded 24. i'm learning that it's SOOOO easy and relatively cheap to mod the 12v's...the hardest thing is setting a limit on how much power you want cause it's so easy. and the reliabilty of a turned up 12 doesn't even compare to that of a turned up 24(or lack of). but you're right, the 12v's stock are no streak of lightning, they're pretty mild mannered.

Pricey?

Hmm lets get you a 450-500 rwhp truck here

4K GSK around 225 dollars
BHAF variable from 27-??
Scotty II (optional) 220 dollars
0 plate FREE if you grind yourself
100 plate (optional) check my gallery for pics and PM northslope (minor cost)
Delivery valves JR adkins 250 dollars
370 injectors around 400 dollars
Pump timing around 150 dollars if you can find someone reliable to do it..

This setup alone will literally fry your stock turbo but you can expect about 350 plus at the rears if you can stand the smoke..

If you add a turbo.. IE HTT or your choice.. youll be well over 400 easy

With a little less than 2.5K you will have a killer 12V on hand if you go with a turbo, if you skip the turbo, just under 1K and ull be all set...

I am looking to mod my 97 12V (59k miles). It's bone stock right now. I am scared of hurting the reliability of the truck. I tow once a month or less, and commute quite a bit on the highway.

thanks,

Kelly

The only thing that you need to worry about the reliability is the tranny. The engine will handle major bombing without much problem. The tranny on the other hand just barely handles the amount of torque that the engine gives it. If you go to an aftermarket tranny then the sky's the limit. You can get to 400hp at the wheels and still have a daily driver without worrying about reliability.

these trucks run in marine setups at 425hp all day and night non-stop...u dont have to worry about reliability as long as its properly tunes...id go 12 valve just because of the bulletproof fuel pump...alot of folks have lemon pumps on their 24 valvers and keep suffering
