04.5 turbo installed

Well I just finished installing an 04.5 turbo with a 4" exhaust. All I can say is WOW!!!! What a difference. When I drop the hammer that thing spools up. You can really feel the difference on the freeway. It may be a mild upgrade but its well worth the price and effort to install it. EGT's also dropped about 100*. Thanks 231 JASONS from nor cal diesel.

so did you have to do many mods to make the 04.5 turbo fit. i was looking at mine and wanted a bigger turbo, just nothing crazy, i'm surprised that a stock turbo off of an 04.5 helped that much

I had to build a new intake tube to the intercooler and reclock the oil inlet /outlet. Remember to disassemble the turbo and remove the alignment pins or you can't reclock it. It's not too big of a project just take your time and be careful not to dammage the impellar fins. Competition Diesel .com has a pretty good write up on a swap you might want to check it out. you'll find DYNO #'s on norcal diesel.com Good luck Ray.

I'm the guy who did the writeup on Comp Diesel, I also did an even longer writeup on here. So if you have a question or three, shoot me a PM.

In my opinion, after several months and zero problems, I'd like to also say that the swap is a great idea for 500 HP or less. It spools just like the stock turbo, pulls much harder, and controls egt better. The only thing I have noticed different is the cool down time after a hard run. Seems that egt's stay up a little longer at idle speed compared to the HX 35. If I rev up to 1200 at shutdown, egt's actually cool off faster so you can return to idle and let it shut down. Or if you have the Adrenaline, or similar egt box, you can "set it and forget it!"
