02 cummins smarty?

I am getting ready to fly out to Texas to look at the 02 dodge 4x4 shortbed posted in the classifieds. I hear in the 01's and 02's there is some sort of defueling device for the low end. Is this true and if I buy a smarty for it will the smarty get ride of the defuelling on the bottom end? Thanks!

Yes and yes.

Dodge put that particular defueling in to save the transmissions, especially in auto transmission equipped trucks.

Smarty defeats it, and can kill a stock transmission pretty quick.

Talking

its in the computer programing itself, cuts the fuel back at 2700rpm to save the trannys life, dodge figured it would save a few waranty issues, the smarty reprograms the computer and gets rid of all the defueling issues and give you a nice boost in power too,

Smarty downloader eliminates defueling above 2700 RPM and "torque management" in low RPM ranges.
