Police: Man critically injured while 'roof surfing' on freeway
ARLINGTON — A 24-year-old Arlington man was critically injured Thursday after trying to “roof surf” on Texas 360, police said.
All southbound lanes of the highway were closed from Park Row Drive to Arkansas Lane while the unidentified man was transported by helicopter ambulance to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
The man was in a Scion xB that was southbound on Texas 360 when he tried to climb out of the car and onto the roof, said Arlington police Lt. Michael Holguin. The man fell from the car about 9:40 p.m. near the Pioneer Parkway exit, Holguin said. He was not hit by any other vehicles, but suffered life-threatening injuries, Holguin said.
Holguin said that alcohol may have been a factor, but added that the driver did not appear to be intoxicated based on preliminary interviews at the scene. Late Thursday, officers were searching for another male passenger who fled the scene, Holguin said.
The accident was still under investigation, Holguin said.
