You Can't Fight City Hall?

Well, I have a senario I would like to run by DTR and see if any of you have any ideas as to how to handle this one.

I bought a upper end acreage and house to fix & flip. The vacant lot next door has two "junk / project" cars on it. They are ugly and it is ILLEGAL to store junk, unregistered, unrunning cars in the open in this area.

I write a letter to the owner asking her to please move the vehicles. I then find out she is A Deputy County Prosecuting Attorney. No response to my letter. I called and left a message at her work offering to pay for the removal of the vehicles at my expense. No response. I write a letter to the County Attorney, with no response.

I called the Sheriff and he contacts her and she says she will move the vehicles, but not until the 30 days she has to move them is up, as required by law. I relaid this message back to my attorney (he knows her) and he says she said; "I'll get even with him by riding our motor cycles on the lot when he has open house."

I forwarded all of the letters, photos, e-mails, ect., to the County Commissioners who put this on the agenda as an action item as the one guy I know is ******! Tax $$$ at work! A Deputy County Attorney knowingly breaking the law!, A Deputy County Attorney threating harrassment of a law abiding tax payer?

What should I do now? Report her to the State Bar?

Man your luck sucks as bad as mine. I would talk to the attorney and see what he had to say about it, but it sounds like that may be your only recourse. it's funny how some people act with a little bit of power and I am sure we all have her appropriate name down correctly

No, don't sweat it. Put lots of tacks out in her yard-stuff that will pop tires when she has her little ride for retardation.

Don't do anything if you can prove the statement about the motorcycles and the planned harassment. Then, if you have allot of trouble selling the house or have to sell at a loss due to the harassment, you should have a pretty fair shot at getting even AND getting into her pocketbook.

Edit: Geico, having actually read the post, I have to say I'm on her side. From my point of view you're being finical; niener niener niener. (I'm usually the one with the rusty old cars in the gated community leaking power steering fluid all over the driveway... And if I could get away with it, you know I'd do it intentionally out of spite. )

Anyways: Why would you fight city hall? If you're in a town of less then 40,000 people, a few twelve packs and favors will go a long ways.

Or maybe that's just Norco...

Sell the house to the dirtiest low down scummy lawyer(shouldn't be too hard to find) you can find and let them do battle, just explain to him the situation.
If you one find dirty enough, he'll probably jump at the chance "to get even".
or just throw tacks on lot like v8440 said

You should have a Cummins party starting at 7am on a Sunday. About 20 or so straight piped trucks should do the trick. ( if she disturbs your open house)

I think you are on the right track. At the same time this happened the county assessor dropped the value of the house by $36K due in a small past because of the junk cars. I can prove the junk vehicles caused the house to loose value I could collect, or at least get her disbarred as a lawer.

I've actually tried that before & won. I had to evict an attorney and she used every slimmy trick in the book, but it cost her more cause she was disbarred.

Moral of the story? Don't wrestle with a pig in the mud. The pig likes it.

Why doesn't that surprise me?

From a guy who thinks a Gremlin with a CDT would be a good thing. Man I would love to see your garage.

I don't think anything begle says suprises anybody anymore. The potato bug rant was great.

You goofed it up at the start..
Shoulda just talked to her to find her plans with the cars and explained your situation, maybe even offered to help move them for your open house. I'll bet she woulda turned out alot better to work with than work against, but thats just my opinion. Send me a letter compalining about my yard and I'll start making you wish it was like it was before the letter. Heck, I brought a tractor to town because they passed an ordinance saying I couldnt park a 'car' in my yard, guess the the 'Farm' equipment went.
Maybe you should put up a tall fence 'cause fences make bad neighbors good neighbors, and good neighbors better ones.

Good Luck,

DuaneW

I don't know about your state laws,But in Indiana I do know if you have junk or project vehicles and someone calls in on you they give you 30 days to either register them or get rid of them.As long as they are registered I really don't think you can do anything about it. my .02 . BTW I wouldn't threaten anyone or do anything to get yourself in trouble that would just cause more trouble for you.

I love the tractor! LOL!

my buddy's dad is a lawyer, and he can't stand those neighborhood integrity people... (we've had our battles with them too)

anyhow, they have this old wooden fort in their back yard... the city said they had to put up a fence in the back yard, so he read the code and put up a chain-link job

then the city said he had to either tear down the fort or it had to be painted, so he went and got purple, orange, and green flourescent paint and just sloshed it all over it... talk about an eye-sore!!!!
