Re:xm or Sirus

I had an alpine head unit that was xm radio ready. Hook up an antenna and register for the service and you're ready to rock and roll pretty much. The sound is awesome. Those fm modulation hookups for satellite sound like crap IMO. Highly recommend a xm or sirius ready radio if you get into it. I like the xm channels and operability. No experience with sirius.

Re:xm or Sirus

I only have experience with XM, but having the sat radio is the way to go. Especially on road trips, you can listen to the same station for as long as you want. Plus for less then $10.00 a month it is a great deal.

My 2500 was factory equiped for Sirius. I LOVE the no commercial concept also.
So far, this Sirius is the best thing since FM radios advent.

Re:xm or Sirus

I got XM about 3 weeks ago. I am very happy with it. I got the portable Delphi unit. I have only lost service down in a gorge with rock on both sides. I would do it again

I would not know what to do with out my XM! I have had it for almost 2 years now. Great for those long road trips, camping, hunting, lake, remote parts of the US, and gets rid of those annoying commercials. It is awesome to have the Weather Channel, NASCAR, sports, and Fox News with the touch of a button. Most of the time it is on the Nashville Channel ;D . XM Rocks!

BOTH SIRIUS AND XM HERE

I have 3 XM units in our cars/trucks and now Sirius in my 04.

As is the Sirius is hands down the best!

But I just received this notice from XM:

Dear XM Subscriber:

First, from all of us at XM, thank you for being a valued member of the XM family.

From every vantage point XM had a spectacular 2003. Ending the year with over 1.36 million subscribers, XM Satellite Radio is one of the fastest growing entertainment media ever. Building on this tremendous momentum, we're delighted to announce several programming content enhancements in 2004 we know you're going to love.

First, XM will offer 100% COMMERCIAL-FREE MUSIC beginning February 1st. With 68 commercial-free music channels, XM will deliver the most commercial-free music in satellite radio. From Rock to Jazz, Classical to Hip-Hop, Country to R&B, you'll now enjoy more of the music you love, without commercial interruption.

Complementing the move to 100% commercial-free music will be the debut of exciting new channels, including:
* Highway 16 - Today's top Country Hits - Ch. 16
* The Blend - Adult Contemporary Hits - Ch. 25
* Fungus - Punk Rock - Ch. 53
* Lucy - Classic Alternative Hits - Ch. 54
* MSNBC - Global and national news - Ch. 130

We are also pleased to announce the launch of XM INSTANT TRAFFIC & WEATHER. Powered by Traffic Pulse and The Weather Channel, XM Instant Traffic & Weather will offer listeners in-depth, up-to-date information about road and weather conditions in 21 major metropolitan markets nationwide, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing greater detail and more frequent updates than available elsewhere on the radio. The first 15 metropolitan markets are available beginning March 1st. You can visit http://traffic.xmradio.com to hear report samples and learn more about this wonderful new XM service.

There's more good news. 100% Commercial-free music, exciting new programming content, Instant Traffic & Weather - all will be included as part of your basic subscription. There are no new charges or fees.

To accommodate these many exciting enhancements, some channels will change number, category, and/or format, or will be eliminated.
* MTV (ch. 25) and VH1 (ch. 26) will move from Hits to Variety (ch. 155 and 156, respectively).
* Spirit (ch. 63) will move from Urban to Christian (ch. 33)
* Fine Tuning (ch. 104) will move from World to Rock (ch. 49)
* XM Live (ch. 168) will move from Variety to Hits (ch. 26)
* We will no longer carry Special X (ch. 30), Aguila (ch. 90), Vibra (ch. 92), and Tejano (ch. 93).

A new channel lineup card will be mailed to you later this month. For more information about all the changes and to view a new channel lineup immediately, please visit http://lineup.xmradio.com.

Thank you again for your valued patronage and for making XM #1 in Satellite Radio.

Best Regards,
The XM Team

Perhaps XM was getting the drift that the Sirius is better!!!!!!

i have both, and prefer the sirius with no commercials. have not received the update from xm yet but that should help. but commercials are also why they made more money than sirius. we'll see.

How big are the antennas? I would like this but don't want a big black thing on the top of my truck! It would be alright if I had a back rack but do they make like a window antenna or what? Any pics?

Oh and how much would it cost to put it in my truck now. I have an aftermarket cd player. Is it as good or should I save and buy a new cd player tha is XM ready? I'm thinking about getting this now. Thanks

I have Sirius. The channels get a little repetetive (as in, they need a larger playlist... badly) but it is still definitely worth it. I listen to all of the news channels all the time and I can't get enough of the Sirius Trucking Network! I also listen to Car Talk on NPR.

I got the whole setup, antenna, faceplate adapter, MP3 playing HU and receiver for $209 from crutchfield. It is $12-14 or so a month. Definitely worth it for someone like me who is putting 1000 miles on the truck a week.

Now they have a HIGHER model for LESS money.. Doesn't that always happen?

Looks like a oblong hockey puck on your roof. Paint it to match if it is too obnoxious...

Can you get "Talk Radio" (Rush, G. Gordon, Pat O'Riley, etc.) on either of them?
