is it worth $40 to pay Sams Club to shop there?

That's for sure. Also the 1/4 pound hot dog and 20 oz soda for $1.50 is a cheap lunch if you are there already.

spoken like a true fat kid.....
there weren't any last nite,
but one couple does go eat at the snack bar & then do their shopping over lunch.
i am undecided on it.
we don't have a freezer in the garage, and it's just us two.
they don't take VISA (only reason i went, was i had a $200 Visa Gift Card)
so now, i am out $222 for groceries,
and the wife now KNOWS about the $200 gift card,
so basically, SAM's cost me $400 already.
do you think i can eat that many free samples?

i think it is, i am single and i go about every other week. some things are cheap and some are not. they dont have a big selection. It will cost more to get started because you have to buy in bulk but once you get stocked up on stuff i think you really do save money. the prob i have now is it is a 45 min drive and fuel eats up some of the savings

The Costco near me also has gas.
We usually go there once a month to get some groceries.
Mostly meat and fish, which is cheaper than the markets.
Usually go in for a few items and 200 bucks later we walk out.
The hot dog and soda does make for a nice lunch too.

I was wondering the same thing.
I have an Exec Menbership at Costco with an Amex card. The rebate pays for the fees. Costco will look at your expenditures and tell you if an Exec Membership is worth it for you. We buy most of our meat there. Those unsliced, full beef tenderloins are a super deal. Buy one of those and your fees are paid. Books and clothes make up the majority of the rest of our shopping there.

I have costco exec membership that I split with family. Hardly worth it... considering the lines and congestion.
I am disappointed that target is cheaper on a lot of items. Meats, cheese and candybars seem to be the best at costco, others are not as good as my loacl grocery
BTW, there are credit cards that give more than the AMEX.
I have a citi drivers edge that give 6% back on gas/ groceries for the first year, and they pay $0.01 per mile driven up to $500 benefits for gas and $500 for driving.

My wife and I shop there every week, and we price everything we buy. We save the $40. "or more" in the first month. And take it to the bank for the rest of the year. Our only complaint is that when we find some products that we like, they up and discontinue them. But also some of the products they carry are cheaper at other stores.
