work related rant

sooooo. I was taken off the bench the other day because everyone is back from school. which is understandable. however, there is a spare hoist. so instead of moving the other guy to the spare hoist and giving him a higher position as a technician they put him back to where he was and they pulled me off the bench.

so they said they would figure something out for me. so from making 29 an hour flat rate the dropped me down to 10 dollars an hour hourly.

so i said ya ok i'll rough it out

they know my previous history because i have alot of experience with different skilled trades, some tiles were coming loose in the show room floor. so instead of paying a professional to do it. the quote was roughly 2500 dollars to do it. for a reason. they asked me to do it.

lovely. i told them the job can't be done properly because the concrete is cracked and uneven underneith. and to be truthful after removing the damaged/unstuck tiles. i was kinda terrified to stand on that part of the dealership with cars beside me cause honestly it looked like the floor was ready to collapse and i would take a two storey plunge into the basement.

so i did the quick repair as a favour. kinda ticked me off considering a tiler would be getting paid a heck of alot more than 10 bucks an hour to do this. but anyways i did it.

next he asks me to go buy some plexiglass and cut some new windows for the garage door. sigh alright fine, seeing as im the only one with experience in the stuff ya ok i'll do you another favour.

keep in mind for the past two weeks i have been having severe lower back pains. (ya despite the fact im 22, i have lived a rather extreme life lol)

so fast foward to today.

came in the morning worked on a guys hoist untill he came in for the afternoon shift than sat around for 3 hours trying to figure out what to do(keep in mind im not getting paid for idle time)

so some things happen, service manager walks in and says i need you to go do those tires, (300-400 tires that need to be moved from one spot to another) i said im not gonna throw my back out for 10 bucks an hour. so he took my tech number off a job (semi annual inspection and oil change, 25 bucks in my pocket for 15 minutes worth of work) because my back hurts. i said i'll do that because its worth my time to hurt myself for that. not for the tires.

so end result he gets angry at me. i said listen, im a mechanic...or technician call me what you want to. im not gonna slave around for you and bassically be your.......(female dog word).........for 10 an hour, if i wanted to be a slave labourer i would work in a moving company for the brick or something, even then im sure they get paid more.

so whenever you prove him wrong in any situation his response is "do you want to be sent home?"

so at this point my blood is boiling, my hands are shaking. i am not at all a violent person, i used to be in my younger years but i changed myself. i hate hurting people. however at this point in time i was ready to just strangle him. at 5'10" and 280 pounds. im not exactly nice when im angry.

so i said i don't know do you want me to go home? he said yes.

so i said alright. do you want me to come pack up my tool box tommorow? or do you want me to work tommorow? he had no response and said he would call me.

so. am i right for being ****** off? keep in mind i have extensive background, i've beenworking in shops since i was 13, have over 9 high school credits related to automotive (95 average), graduated college twice, (once for automotive and once for motorcycle and powersports), dealership experience, small shop experience, engine jobs, tranny swaps, some custom fab work and body work. and yet he wants me to be his slave for next to no pay.

wow i needed to type that out.

Yep, sounds like you need to do exactly that. Type it up, get professional help with the resume' if you need it and start looking. Just remember, it's easier to find a job if you have one and when your on the clock, working by the hour, occasionally you just have to work. When they bumped you back they also could have let you go, but they didn't.

Good luck with the job situation. Sounds to me like they're just taking advantage of you. I'd probably go find a better job somewhere else if I were you.

In that case you shouldn't have a problem finding something better.

Yeah, but in defence of the last two statements, you hope that the people that you work for have some reverse loyalty....

A fella one time told me you are not a true tradesman until you have been fired. Guess I am a true one. Being fired is not that you could not do the job, most time it is that you won't do the job.
They did you a favor man. Go forward and prosper. This is a small Y in the road of your life, an adventure. Just think you have more experience, and you are free. No one controls your life but you. You are now free of that BS. Makes me wane to jump up and down for you.

if you have the qualifications you say you do you should have been home drinking a beer 10 minutes after they mentioned 10 bucks an hour.

You can't be everything to everybody. I'd recommend deciding for yourself what you are willing to do and hold that line. Don't be angry with management when they say do this for 19.00/hour less and you go for it.

The bad back deal at such a young age is something you should consider as well when considering what you are going to do and who you are doing it for.

Your better off without that job. In the future, when they try a big cut in pay like that, stand your ground. That is a huge red flag of BS to come. If you are a mechanic, you should have no problem finding work. I went to a auto technology class once and finished. It taught me that I was'nt cut out to be a mechanic, I have little patience with broken stuff. You guys certainly earn your money.
