Wood pellets

Hey guys , seems that firewood is becoming a little scarce in my area , I have a small wood stove but burn about 2 cords of wood a season .
I seen that some people were puting a screened tray inside there stoves to hold the pellets .
Any one burning wood pellets in a wood stove ?

Thanks

greg

I have a pellet stove in our basement but I've never heard of converting a regular wood stove to burn pellets. Pellet stoves have a hopper/bin to store them and an auger type feed to continuously feed them into the stove. Burning a handful of pellets all at once would get quite hot, typically my stove only has maybe ~15 pellets being burned at 1 time and it will heat our 2700 sf house.

I don't use it much as bags of pellets are now $5 per 40lb bag compared to $2 2 years ago.

Good luck.

There is a site called pelleteer ...they sell a basket to put inside your fireplace or wood stove , I can make one pretty easlly with better materials .
My wood stove is pretty thick steel .
I just picked up a bag to check the burn rate of the pellets .
I don't use this as primary heat , I can't justify taking out the stove thats in the house now , I waited a little late in the season to find my fire wood so now i am scrounging around .
If I can make a nice basket that holds a small amount of pellets and has a nice burn for 6 or 8 hrs I would be happy .
Thanks for the info , I may also keep my eyes open for a used unit .
What should I expect to pay for a ton of pellets ?
Thanks

How much wood are you looking for? Delivered or you pick up?

I don't see you having much luck with pellets, unless you switch over to a pellet/corn stove. They are auger fed, I can't imagine a big pile of pellets burning too well/efficient.

P.S, I spent about 5 minutes typing how successful I have been burning wood Pallets.

(need any pallets? they make great kindling)
