Question ? on the wife's car,,,,,,,

Hey Folks,
Any of ya'll know which cylinder is #5 on a 98 Camaro 3800 V-6?
Just pulled the codes on the wife's car because the "Check Engine" light came on and it is missing, the scanner says "Misfire on #5 cylinder"

If I'm standing looking at it,,,,,,,, is it the last one (to the rear) on the driver's side? Trying to figure out if it's the plug,,, plug wire,,,, or one of the coils again.

This car could have been about 4 feet shorter in the front cause they put 95% of the dad-blamed motor up under the firewall,,,,,, Any help would be appreciated,,,,,,,

that would be my guess as a v-8 would be 1,3,5,7 on drivers side and 2,4,6,8 on pass. good luck

If it is the same as GM always was #1 is closest to the rad and they criss cross back and forth. So #5 would be the last one on the #1 side (if that makes any sense.) I believe that would be the back left (drivers side)

Like jaconst said. It's the 3rd one back, driver's side. Usually Chebby's have a problem with plugs fowling on the number 6 and 8 cylinders (2 back ones on the passenger side). Some weird thing about the small block design.
I hate that I can remember stuff about a Chebby. "Know your enemy", I guess.

Thanks guys,
I put new plug wires and plugs in it about 6 months ago after the dealership replaced one of the coils that had gone bad. Talk about a job! Ya have to put the car on jack-stands and change the plugs from the underside,,,,,,,,, (need lots of bandaids too) I don't even want to think of how bad it would be with a V-8 under the hood. From some of the things I've read,,,,, these things are real hard on wires. Lots of heat and everything is so confined. I noticed when I changed the plugs and wires,,,, it had three different types of GM wires on it where dealerships had replaced just a single wire on two different occassions. Apparently, the wire goes bad and then it trashes the coil. This is one of those motors with no distributer and three different coils.
Wonder who thought that up?
Anyway,,, thanks. I just wanted to rule out the plug and wire for number 5 before I take it back. I didn't want to go through another day of replacing all the wires, only to find out it's a coil again.

now I remember the camaro has to ge the spark plugs taken out from below in them years I believe the v-8 you hsve to unbolt motor mount and lift side of motor to get all the plugs , how fun just glad the ctd has no plugs

Man...anti-user friendly engines! Let me guess...you change the oil filter underneath the A/C compressor and the air filter is down by the tranny drain plug?

I don't know about the Camaro's, but the V8 corvettes I've done aren't TO bad. Still takes up the better part of 2 hours.

How about changing the plugs and an old Dodge flat head six? Now, there's a job for ya.

I was in the service with a guy that put 175000 miles on his V5 Monza. He was too cheap to jack up the engine and change the plug on one side so he called it his V5.
