It is kind of funny how all of the liberals call the news organizations Republican-dominated brain-washing cults... Michael Moore wrote a book on how Bush's friends in the media threw the 2000 election for the Republicans, and went on to alledge many more instances of the conservative media suppressing the Liberal majority of the United States.
To me it seems that both sides like to claim the media as being on the other side of the ring. The media just reports whatever will be the most shocking or what not; I don't think they have, or would benefit from, a political agenda. Either side is going to screw up enough for them to make money off the hype.

It's just like the pitbull thing. If a cocker spaniel attacks a child you'll never hear about it. If a pitbull looks crosseyed at someone it's national news. It's called sensationalism and propaganda. They try to steer you towards their point of view and away from the views however correct that they may disagree with.
Part of the reason they have taken so long to defend themselves is the policy that ALL guns are confiscated from everyone. There was a big deal on the news when the Brits did it as a way to keep the insurgents from getting guns to attack them. The US forces have also done it but it has not been publicized as much. The NRA ran an article in the American Rifleman where the guys hated to do it but they weren't given a choice.
Kind of a rock and a hard place - leave the guns and have them used against you, take them away and they can't defend themselves.
