I have a different perspective. I believe they are not looting simply because there is nothing left to loot.

amazing what a little governmental misinformation and a death before dishonor mindset can do.

Ha, think that could happen with a tidal wave.
Oh by the way if it is a Tsunami (Tsunami is Japanese for harbor wave) it must be a harbor wave there.

Also notice a reporter can do their entire shoot without 500 of them showing up just to get on TV?

My Papaw fought the Japanese in WWII. He had 2 Purple Hearts, Silver Star, Oak Leaf Cluster, etc. I remember him saying they fought hard and were ruthless butchers.

However he was involved with occupying the Philippines after the war, I remember him saying that after the surrender they showed a lot of respect toward their Allied captors. He said they loved to play baseball and he told me about playing ball with them a few times. He said it was hard at first knowing they had killed some of your friends, but that he knew also that he had done the same to them.

An honorable enemy deserves as much respect as an honorable ally.

Katrina. I hate that name. I hate that time. It makes my stomach turn. That is one of the few instances in which it makes me embarrassed to be from Louisiana. New Orleans is a cesspool. I have no use for it.

I had an uncle who is passed now but was a WWII marine, 1st Division, did some island hopping and went to his grave with a hatred of Japanese I could not understand until older.

Having spent a great deal of time there myself, I have come to respect and enjoy their culture and have made friends.

One story I have is when I rode the train from Toyko to Kyoto. As we left the urban area and there more more a mix of "rurals", an argument started between city folks and rurals. At the next stop as folks were getting off all who passed me said something did the slight bow thing. Someone who spoke english explained that they were apologizing for being rude and that the outbursts in front of a visitor was dishonorable... I was feeling kinda touched until he told me that a couple of them called me gai-jin...lol

For the most part people are people everywhere I've gone, some better, some worse. The Japanese people of today are as good as any I've been around. I'd trust them before most of my own family...

it goes beyond not looting.

My fiance is Japanese. She has been reading of events in japan. Due to the food shortage people are only buying what they immediately need rather than hoard everything they can. (which happens almost everywhere)

Also she has read reports of people going into a store and helpiung pick up what is on the ground and put it back on to the shelves.

absolutely baffles me, wish it was more like that here at times

One thing good may have come about from this tragedy, the whaling ships may have all been damaged or destroyed. No whale hunting this year all ships have been recalled.

Dont get mad at me but I really like whale meat. For some reason it really fills a void during a long winter. However, I never cared for their whaling fleet since it was all for commercial gain, not for necessity (sort of).

Think we once talked about that on another thread. The hard working honest people got no news footage but the DNA challanged idiots got almost all of it.

Even if there were starving survivors in Japan getting food out of the wreckage of a grocery store, I wouldn't call that looting.

The folks grabbing TV's, booze, and assorted electronics after Katrina was what really bugged me.

Wasting Taxpayers Money

New Orleans,

Elevation below sea level. Did you catch that

ELEVATION BELOW SEA LEVEL.

Then the goverment steps in to rebuild levee's so people can rebuild again "BELOW SEA LEVEL" and cry for more goverment help when it floods again.

Sometimes I think that events like that are gods way of "natural selection"

Don't get me wrong, it was a horrible thing that happened there but to rebuild on a site where you know its going to happen again, not if but when, it dosn't seem very smart.

Those were my thoughts at the time too.
