I don't know about the ones in the OTR applications, but the four 16 cyl Cats we had onboard my first ship were absolute powerhouses !!! They leaked a little, but man, they purrrrrred.

Jack I also see many many 3rd gen Dodge ram trucks with CAT front plates....

From my (limited) experience with OTR CAT's, they do purrrrrrr.
Yes, when it comes to power, CAT has a well earned reputation as king for the OTR class.
However, I dont know if that reputation is currently accurate with the new, strong competitors such as the ISX.
Cummins has really taken some great strides in creating a reputation for reliability and "Up-Time".
We'll see what all the EPA regs do as time passes.

Rich.

Yeah alot of people have Cat tags and John Deere tags around here (southern thang)

My uncle is Bulldozer operater (owns his on business) and all he has had is Cat ever since his dad started (my grandfather) the/his on business in 1952.

He has D7XL (2005) dozer, and I believe a C325 track loader (2003), and a D6XL (2002) dozer as his equiment but also rents alot of his stuff to.His Peterbelt lowboy also has a Cat in it too.

His work truck, his sons work truck,His sons regular truck, his wifes car, and his dauthers car all have daimond plate Cat tags on them. His sons regular truck (2001 Dodge 2500 cummins 5 speed 4x4 with 4:10s) has 2 huge cat stickers that cover the back glass.

Not hatin' - just turning green...

I only have 2 Cummins plaques (300 ft lbs each). I figure another one on the tailgate will be worth at least another 200-300 ft lbs.

I've heard the Cat plates are incompatible with the Cummins plates and will actually yeild negative gaines. Example: 1 Cat license plate, deduct 100 ft lbs. Deduct 25 ft lbs for evert cat sticker. JD plates are 150 ft lb deductions, and so on.

Our 3512 (52L Turbo V-12) 1.5 MW genset never fails to start and run until power is restored. Their slogan is "Reliable Power" for a reason. Price one out and you'll understand. You do get what you pay for. Cummins comes in a super close second in my book. The next genset I buy will probably be a Cummins because of the price difference and the reliability is right on par with Cat. But what do I know, I like Fords.....
