Who makes good 100% cotton work pants?
I need some 100% cotton work pants for a hobby of mine that involves flammables. Synthetic fabrics will melt into the skin in case of a fire.
Who makes good 100% cotton work pants besides Carhartt? I think Carhartt charges a lot just for the name.

Re:Who makes good 100% cotton work pants?
Most jeans are 100% cotton - any pair of jeans should be pretty good as long as they dont have the flammables on them.
Carhart may not be cheap but they last and last. Most of the welders Ive been around wear nothing but Carhart bibs...
If your hobby involves flammables, you should really consider Nomex coveralls or pants/shirt. Again, not cheap but I dont imagine having 2nd or 3 rd degree burns would be a lot of fun. Don't know what kind of hobby you have, but the fire resistant/retardent garments could concievably save your life.

I like the Dickies work jeans, double layered from upper thigh to middle of shin and cell phone pocket. The opening to the front pockets are small though. Usually about $24 Am.

I don't really want just a pair of jeans but real work pants. Maybe I will just spend the money for a couple of pairs of Carhartt pants and be done with it.
The risks of fire are pretty darn low. I'm not working with volitale liquids like gasoline or methanol. I'm mixing ammonium perchlorate powder, an oxidizer, with a very thick liquid to create rocket motors. I'm only aware of one accident ever. Commercial manufacturers of the same thing don't require anything beyond cotton clothing for their workers.

actually ive been noticing that there seem to be more and more companies making carharrtt knockoffs. not neccessarily no name brands either. had to go to the mall the other day (insert puke face smilie) and noticed even timberland now has a huge line of carharrtt style clothing.

I looked at some Dickies pants last night and they were all a poly/cotton blend, not 100% cotton. I looked at the www.dickies.com and it appears they do not make any 100% cotton work pants. They do make some 100% cotton casual pants though.

Don't know if they're 100% cotton or not, but I've worn Wrangler jeans all my life and have never once caught on fire.
Wranglers are good, but Carhartt makes probably some of the toughest clothing I've ever worn...and I'm hard on them. I've got several Carharrt coats and a pair of coveralls that have been through a little bit of of everything and they're still going strong.

Sierra Trading Post (sierratradingpost) is a mail-order company based in WY that often sells discounted Carharrt clothing. Might want to give their website a look.
Good luck.

I saw the Timberlands at Sears and was about to buy, but Sears only carries inseams of 30 and 32 in all sizes and I usually need 34 inseams.
The Timberland Pro fabric is a little thinner than the Carhartt, but I figured for my use I'd rather save $5 or $10 over the Carhartt.

What's your safety worth???? I work in an oil refinery. Nomex is mandatory. When the weather turns cold, the only outergarment authorized is a carhartt coat. Unless, of course, it's a nomex winter coat, and you don't even want to know what those babies cost. Cheaper to put a new turbo on your truck. Key makes a reasonable work pant that is cheaper than Carhartt. They wear well and I think for your application, may be more than adequate. Just my few pennies of thought. I make my living in Carhartt clothes (not the selling of, but the wearing of).

I agree Dave....thats why I suggested Nomex in the first place - gasoline is more dangerous than most people realize.
I have a question - which Carhartt coat is authorized???.....most, if not all that Ive seen still have synthetic lining.....
