anyways, we used to roll up I-95 all the time, and most folks are doing 70~75 on I-26, but once you get on I-95, it's easy to see a convoy of ~5 cars going 80mph.

and there's always one idiot going blitzkrieg, who passes the 80mph convoy.

do folks drive that fast all over, or is it just the snowbirds & vacationers running late?

nothing i drive gets good gas MPG at 80 MPH

the good thing about NC is most native NC drivers use the far left lanes as transitory passage. my Dad does, he does ~65 in the fast lane, and yells "I PAY MY TAXES JUST LIKE THEM" and will NOT get out of the fast lane, no matter what. he's got a Mustang GT, 4:10 gears, cold air, flowmasters, dyno tuned....and 65mph

we went thru Raleigh/Sanford area while back, like 4 lanes, and all the NC tags were piled up, like a little wedge up against the left lane, doing about 60 in a 70mph zone. everyone else was hammer down in the slow lane, rolling past them.

its just funny now, and the wife groans when she sees a blue haired traffic blocker with a NC plate in the left lane putzing along

how fast do you guys think is safe in our ~7k trucks?

 

I run I-95 from Washington DC to Richmond every other weekend.

Most folks I see 'camping out' in the left lane are from Pennsylvania, Florida, New 'Yok, and 'Joisey.

You'll usually see me in the right lane running at 4-5 over the posted limit in a 55 to 65 mph zone or 70 in a 70.

I mostly see young Maryland drivers doing their 'fast and furious' imitations flying @ 10mph or better over the posted limit.
I also see the VSP presenting them with 'Welcome to Virginia' paperwork on a regular basis.

 

I run between 100 and 125 here.

 

Out here in Cali most speed limits are 65MPH, I usually go 72MPH.

On I-5 It's 70MPH, I usually go 75-80MPH if it's near a city, if it's from Stockton to L.A. I keep try to keep it at 85-86MPH (Can't recall the Cruise Control limit). I get passed by 90-105MPH all the time on that stretch. If I see a CHP, I'll slow to 78-82MPH and they don't bother with you, probably wouldn't bother me at 85MPH but why chance it.

 

We only have 2 Interstates in Wy, 80 and 25. Not really local either, but I digress. Generally I run 4-9 over until the interstate then I keep it around 77 or 78. To much stopping time for deer and elk. It's also hard to see the good looking sheep if you go much faster than that...

Not much trouble with left lane drivers in my parts as on coming traffic tends to keep them from hanging out there to long . In our parts, people generally pull out of the passing lanes as we tend to correct inadvisable traffic habits rather 'effectively' and 'efficiently' in the badlands. The Wyo hypo's don't much care for out of stater's who don't follow the rules of the road either.

 

Its not too bad her ein Western PA on I-80. Most people avg about 70....anything higher than that, your risking a ticket.

I saw someone in a Jag the other day that BLEW by me probably doing around 90 + or so. I also saw that same Jag along the road with smokey with the lights a few miles later on..... writing a (rather large) ticket for the driver. But, I suppose if you have the money to buy a Jag, a ticket isnt an issue.

I run 75 here around Cincinnati. When I travel to Louisville or Lexington its around 90. 85 it what the semi's run

 

We have I-80 and I-78 close by. I run I-80 everyday, I generally don't go any faster than 75mph during the rush hours. Most the in the rush people are going 80-85. I run around 70mph any other time, its easier for the State Police to pull out onto the road.

 

Speed limit is 70 here on I-20. Most people drive 70-75. In Louisiana its illeagal to run in the left lane unless you are passing.

 

The Fire Academy is 58 miles south of here in Mass. We didn't get over 50 on the way down this morning, nor did we get over 46 on the way home tonite. And it's usually that way no matter what time you come or go. Get to the far northern reaches at 2AM and you might be able to get up around 65 before the highway merges with Rte 95 in NH.

Left lane is for passing here. I've been in the right lane doing 85 and getting passed like I was standing still. Gas prices and economy has slowed it down a little..

 

Only 2 here in Iowa and I am as far away from them as I can get without living in anouther state. The ones that are in SD and Minnisota are abought 45 miles from here have 75 mph speed limits and most people tend to run rite around that with the ocasional speed racer.
Years ago on our honeymoon we left Colorado Springs at 6 am and headed north to Denver and we literaly could not keep up with trafic. I had just bought a new 2000 GMC 2 days before our weding and I quickly found out how fast it would go. It was governed ar 98 MPH and it never came off that govenor the entire 60 miles. I was getting passed by everything under the sun. I couldent balive how fast those older beatles would go, one passed me like I was standing still. I literaly could count on 1 hand how many vehicles i passed in that 60 miles and I bet at least 100+ vehicles passed me. It only took 35-40 minutes to make that section.
