I still have the luxury of drivng over Donnor to pick up a couple of loafs strait from the bakery!
There is no other sourdough that can come close to the San Francisco sourdough!
Did you know that the "Mother Sponge" (This is what they call the master loaf that they have been growing in a special room since the early 1900's. They use a part of the Master Loaf to create all loafs of their sourdough bread)... anyway, did you know that the "Mother Sponge" is kept under lock and key and guarded by an armed guard?

They take bread making seriously! Proof is in the dough!

Rich
[/quote]
Yep I knew that
Did you know you can buy a little chunk of that stuff to make your own from and keep working it in your fridge?
The way I make it you can hardly tell the difference, of course after smelling it in the oven a dirt clod would probably be savory :P What is it about fresh bread coming out of the oven that just makes you drool over it?

Nobody beats mom's zuchini bread, or brown bread(Christmas recipe). The Amish around the corner come close with their raisin bread.

Alirght, I confess. I have my own bread maker and I search through the local stores for interesting breads to bake up whenever the mood strikes. I generally prefer most oat enhanced breads but there is a potato bread that I fancy once in awhile. Nothing like hot, fresh made bread, with a dollop of melting butter on the slice. 8) 8)

~Dave

Every July 1st, our town puts on a heritage day where they fire up old clay ovens, grind the wheat from scratch, and make home-made butter to slop on it. Your arteries harden with each bite, but its worth every second of the bypass surgery ;D

Rod
