What happens when you fight a table saw.

The pictures are nasty looking so if your squimach you might not want to look.

I was using my old table saw which had no blade guard and a wore out guide bar on it. I got startled and jerked around and my hand hit the blade.

Here's the results.

This is three hours after the accident before surgury.

Man that has got to hurt. Sorry about your accident. Did this just happen? I swear I saw these pictures in an AF Safety Message recently.

I cut the tip of my thumb off (inside portion where index and thumb would touch) with a table saw AND it has the safety stuff in place, but I was rushing and went to move a piece stuck between the fence when my thumb caught the blade. 9 stitches and 3 1/2 years later I still have trouble picking up small stuff like a pencil.

I can only imagine the shock and pain you went through.

This goes to show that no matter how safe you think you are working around power tools, anything can happen.

I can feel your pain... no really I can.

I had the blade go length wise down the center of my middle finger. And I did have a blade guard but just set down the pusher stick to do some fine work.

5 years later it still hurts.

I wish for you a full recovery.

It is amazing the stuff we put our hands through "just because"
we slip up. Counted the stitches I've had over the years and came up with just shy of 300. You guys learned quicker than I did. Be more careful guys, Wow! Hope you heal soon.

Saw the pictures of a guy who had a piece of wood kick back and went though him like a spear. I'm really paranoid around saws after seeing that.
Heal up soon. Good thing you weren't wearing gloves like some do.

Hey! Maybe you should use that picture for your avatar like Cincy did with his head.

our son in law did a number on his hand with a table saw as well. A few years ago I was in a tool shop checking out some stuff and ran across this (it may not have been this brand but had same feature. Never used one myself but pretty slick if it works like they say

Pretty neat gadget. We had a discussion about them a few years ago.

Still don't know if they work as good as the ad says but I don't want to test it.

Aw man, that looks awful, sure hope it heals quickly.

If it makes you feel any better, your typing skills still look ok.

Thanks for all the well wishes I've only ever typed with two fingers so this dosent brother my typing.

The designer of saw stop actualy believes in his product he put his own finger into a blade to prove it.

He has some guts.

I've been playing with table saws since 1983, and I've been fortunate enough to never have done anything like what is posted in the pictures above.

FWIW,

I've read multiple times that there is an old wives tale about speeding recovery of injuries using honey applied to the wound. I wouldn't have believed it, unless I tried it myself. It works. It acts as a natural antibiotic, and speeds the recovery process. Sugar also works, but not as effectively.

A friend of mine placed his hand on a steel pipe that was being driven into the ground for a pier piling. Don't do that! The shock wave from the pile driver shattered 2 of his fingers and broke his thumb. Did he learn from his mistake? Nope. He drilled through a stove pipe and into his hand that was holding it from the other side.
