Unhappy Well I guess it had to happen eventually.. (Repossession Story)

I can't get too detailed for legal reasons, but here's the latest repo story..

One of our drivers last night was finishing up a long round of checking addresses and spots the unit in the front yard. He procceds to start hooking up to the truck, lifting it up, and strapping it down. As he was climbing into the wrecker a female comes running out of the house and jumps in the truck that's fixin to get repo'ed. Well just in case some of you don't know (and I have a feeling I probably shouldn't give out this little tid bit ) if there is someone in the vehicle you're about to tow you cannot move the vehicle until they get out.

So he gets back out and tries to convince the female to get out of the truck and just call her lender tomorrow and get this all straightened out. From out of nowhere he gets cold clocked. The man that owns this vehicle decided to come outside. He's a former Marine Sgt (whom we believe was a dishonor discharged for this same kind of crap, cops couldn't get specific) and our driver failed to notice this little note on the repo order (which I personally typed up in hopes he would have been more careful) and the punching bag hangin from a tree in the yard. The man then picks our driver up, throws him to the ground, and starts beating the livin hell out of him until he agrees to release the vehicle.

Needless to say, our driver gave it up and the guy jumped in the truck and drove off. Cops were called, meat truck came, etc etc. All in all, 3 broken face bones, nose crushed, skin had to be cut away from different parts of his body it was so banged up, stitches to help put his face back together, and of course, blood all over the place. They think the swelling is the only thing holding his face together. Our driver looks like he got hooked up to his own wrecker and dragged up and down the street. Cops said judging by the pictures and all the blood they're going after this guy for felony assault charges. But they only had one cop on duty at the same and the head cop said no way we're going after this guy with just one cop. So they're waiting sometime between now and Saturday to get five cops together and surround his house and take him in.

All in all, last night was not the best night to be the repo man.

Man if you can't hook up without getting out maybe you shouldn't work alone. I've seen those shows on Discovery etc that show repo guys taking cars and truck from the pump at gas stations when the dead bets payin for his/her gas.

Seriously, the guy backs up to the car or truck and bam these things wrap around the wheels and the driver lifts'em up and drives away. They never even needed to get out of the truck.

Sorry to hear about the guy gettin beat down. But don't you need a warr. or something in order to go onto priv. property. Just cause you are allowed to get it for none payment doesn't mean you can go onto someones property. Don't you need a court order or something? I hope this guy wasnt in his right to beat him like he did.

I think being a repo man has to be one of the most dangerous jobs there is. Case in point...see above.

I think he heard a little too much of "lead follow or get out of the way".

We have actually done that before. Unfortunely the guy took off and drove off the lift and we went on a high speed chase with my dog on the back of the wrecker hanging on for dear life. And yes, we do have the kind of lift (sometimes called a "****** and go" lift) where all we have to do it get underneath it and lift it up and go. The reason he got out the first time is to strap it down for safety, which is not at all required, and could have just as easily waited and done it down the street. But he didn't realized anyone was home after he hooked up to it and no one came out. The only reason he got out the second time is because, like I said, he couldn't leave with her in it.

I've repo'ed by myself. I'm 5'7" and (finally) 120lbs. It's pretty safe when you have the ****** and go lift and power door locks. The driver, who is male, is a little more brazen than I am. Of course he's been doing it for four years with no serious trouble like this.

That's kinda iffy. If there's no posted signs, it's free game. If there are signs and the gates open, it's still kind of free game. You have to understand that once that vehicle is hooked up to the wrecker and lifted off the ground it is considered part of the wrecker therefore our property and not the debtors. So private property doesn't matter anymore.. It all depends on who you repo from and what the cops are like though sometimes.

my dad did some repoing with a buddy of his for a while several years ago, back windows shot out of the wrecker, car chases, all kinds of wonderful stuff, a friend of mine's dad had a towing/repo business and my friend is always going on repo calls, ****** and grab lifts are the way to go, my buddies wrecker can get a car in 17 seconds, i know this because ive seen him do it in that time, your towman needs to get a CCW and keep a gun in the truck just in case.

He usually does, although it doesn't help when the guy has knocked you to the ground and standing infront of the wrecker door and beating the crap out of you and preventing you from getting back inside and getting away or to your weapon. In Texas it's legal to keep a weapon in your vehicle loaded as long as it's concealed, but it's no use if you can't get to it..

Ha! 17 seconds, that's it? Bring it on buddy, never timed myself, but I'm fast enough to hook up, strap down, and haul Edit squealing tires from dragging the vehicle all before the debtor can even get their lazy Edit outside shouting colorful things at me..

Good to hear from another repo driver (or son of) though, lol.

not my wrecker, its my buddies wrecker, my computer glitched and i didnt type "my buddies". oh yeah i know what ya mean about the weapon thing, i understand he couldnt get to it, if i could of gotten a "J" hook in my hand i would of stuck it in his neck if i was him. im sure the guy will be doing a bunch of time over this. once im in florida i am going to be buying a underbed repo lift for my truck so i can repo cars for a friend of mines car lot. you strap your cars down???? we dont, just ****** and grab and hope they dont come off til we get somewhere safe, it falls off or is in park, well sucks to be whoever is fixing it.

Yeah supposedly the pictures of the aftermath and all the blood are enough for felony charges. That, and supposedly (not my words, it came from the cops, so I'm not completely 100% about this) that since he was trained by the govt his hands are considered lethal weapons and that adds to the charges with assault with a deadly weapon.

lmfao! I didn't even think about that. Too bad it was a 3rd gen or else it might as well have been.

Ah ha, that's awesome. I'll have to mention that to him when I see him next after he's done with the hospital.
