Would only apply to newer trucks with emissions equipment from the factory, say 1998 and newer?

I mean not that I roll coal on people but say I did and got pulled over and cop ask if I have the following:

EGR? Didn't come with one.
DPF? Wasn't invented yet.
DEF? What?
FICM modification? HUH?
Aftermarket Chip? Can I go yet?

I am guessing an opacity test like they do for the older 18 wheelers would tell them that your truck had been "modified". It would depend how the law was written, but it is not a good sign for us Diesel guys. I know my old 1st gen are "tuned" so they can puff out some smoke as you run through the gears if you mat the throttle too soon. I tune them to be a little strong on the fuel down low, otherwise the manual trucks are slower to spool up at each gear shift. It depends on how you drive it at that point.
