The greatest generation is dying off unfortunately.

Buried my WW2 Vet grandfather about a year and a half ago. Sad to see him go. I have my other grandfather who is also a WW2 vet still alive.

They are truely the Greatest generation.



Plus, they have the best stories if you have a few hours to spare.

 

Absolutely true.

It is a sad truth that there will never be another generation that will do what has to be done to insure freedom in such massive numbers. May I add one thing? We should also remember those that stayed at home, the women that were the first generation to work in industrial areas dominated by men, the folk that were too old to go, but volunteered to take civil positions in order to safeguard the community.

This generation, and those around them, knew sacrifice and weren't afraid of it. I wonder what will happen when all of them are gone? Will future generations realize what is gone, and will they believe all the stories?

 

Great point!! It was certainly a joint sacrifice!! The women stepped up and did what they were allowed to do in such times. I think they would have done more if allowed, just by the testimony of my late grandmother. It was the WHOLE generation!! My hats off to them. Without each and every one of them, we would not enjoy the rights we have to this day.

I just wish we had the same mentality today has our fathers, and grandfathers. (Mothers, and grandmothers) as well. They were, and still are a tough breed. Here were people who were very young and had to go through the great depression. Something I hope we never see, and came out of it OK!!! And then, fight a war, and come home to the industrial revolution. A revolution that provided a great job for my father, and me for a short time.(Factory)


On a side note, Listen to Merle Haggard's song..."Are the good times really over for good". It sums up what I feel and i can't help but think of my grandfather and those in his age range. What a generation indeed!!!

Unfortuneately, the spoiled self-centered brat generation that is controlling our government at the moment had it handed to them. then cried, protested, or ran away when they had to defend freedom.

 

I lost my grandfather six years ago who was in the army in ww2, I spent almost every summer and weekend with him. I remember all the good times and memories we made. He was the first one to let me drive his truck, taught me how to shoot, how to fish, and just about everything else. I wish he was still here, he had so many stories from his childhood, the war, when he married my grandma, and so much more. I was only 13 years old when he passed away and never really listened to all his stories like I wished I would have. I miss him all the time and agree that he was from an incredible generation. I kinda wonder what is going to happen with my generation in the future, there are alot of self centered spoiled brats who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter and buy everything on credit cards and dont know how to put in a good days work or do anything anymore.
